Why do people hate BASE?

I know BASE is not illegal but why do so many find other ways to persecute jumpers?

Most people live their lives in a constant state of fear. They are paralyzed by it. Our whole culture today is built around a cult of safety and a total freedom of responsibility for one's own security. We are outsiders to that world, and that breeds an us-vs-them resentfulness in the vast majority of the population who are SHEEP.

Who knows? The dominant safety-at-all-costs culture notwithstanding, BASE jumping is probably
yet another reminder of how for a "free" country, we sure have a lot of rules.
