I have a belly mounted reserve that has a T-10A in it. Would this be black death as a water canopy assuming it was in a properly sized container for that purpose, or has it worked before?

I'd say it's too big. Most round canopies used for BASE water landings are in the 19-foot diameter range. A T-10 is 35-feet in diameter!
A military T-10 (main or reserve) is designed to lower a fully combat loaded soldier hence the size.
Problems for BASE:
-Would take forever to open.
-Would be very susceptible to being pushed around by just a little wind.
-Would be a huge mess of fabric and lines in the water after landing.
About the only thing I can think of doing with this canopy is hooking three (or more) jumpers to it and going for a gang leap . . .
P.S. I remember back in the late 1980s a movie stuntman without much jumping experience launched from one of the Golden Gate Bridge towers and somehow ended up under a T-10 reserve and hanging helplessly from the bridge roadway.

:P
This is a T-10A which is 24' in diameter at least that is what it says on the packing data card.
Yikes!
Well, now we know what the "a" means in T-10a!
Sorry . . .

SO, it seems this question still needs an answer --
has anyone any experience using a 24' military type reserve as a BASE water canopy?
I have often wondered about this myself, though I tend to spend the bucks for my BASE equipment, 24' canopies can often be found for cheap.

holy sh#t...
what rock did you just crawl out from under?:o
just in case you're intersted, I have one up for auction on ebay right now:

Later,

p.s. got a security 26' conical with 4-line release for sale too:

both are in excellent condition. If you happen to check my other auctions, the fury is a bit clapped out, but it's airworthy and I've landed it with no probs - exit weight 190 lbs.
