    Bridle Wear

I've got a friends rig that I'm babysitting (due to injury resulting from poor decision making...)

I have noticed that there is some wear on the bridle, the loop end where you attach the pilot chute:

I am assuming this is from Static Line attachment.

It's easy enough to make up a new bridle, but in the future, what can be done to keep this wear from happening?

I don't do a whole lot of Static Line jumps myself so I don't have this issue. Is it fairly common?

I use the CWYSL as depicted on the Static Line wiki page.
This does not cause any friction on the bridle at all.

if you have break cord touching your bridle, it WILL burn it. it won't take many jumps, to make your bridle look like above.

That is what I was wondering, if a link would be a good way to avoid this.

I am getting ready to make up some carry with you static line setups, but I've know people to tie the break cord directly to the bridle, which would give you the same over all result?

yes it would. just add the french link to your bridle. it's a really great thing to add a couple to your kit. they're tiny and easy to stash in many places in case you need them. and even a nice stainless steel one from a hardware store is usually less than a buck. if nothing else, just hook it to your stash bag.

think of hip rings. same idea.

I would advise staying away from the hardware store version. If you look closely, they usually say "Made in Taiwan" on them. A #4 Rapide link (granted not stainless) can be purchased from Paragear for $2.60... Obviously that will incur shipping charges, etc... but if you tag along with a rigger's order, or just buy one from him/her you could get it on the cheap...

yes, obviously do not buy the shitty ones. you can find quality (and stainless) ones at almost any hardware store.
