BASE with skydiving gear

Hi. First off don't get me wrong, it is not my intention in any way to attempt this, I am just curious So I read the book "BASE 66" by Jevto Dedier, and apparently they used skydiving rigs for BASE in the beginning. How can you BASE with a skydiving rig?
Again, just curious.

The similarities are that they're both containers that deploy parachutes using a pilot chute.

BASE Gear became more specialized by eliminating the reserve as there's usually no time for it and it adds complexity to the system. Also the canopies are much less radical than todays common skydiving wing.

Older skydiving canopies were low aspect ratio 7 cells, which works well for BASE.

You may not want to freefall a 180' cliff with 'skydiving' gear, but as you can see at bridge day every year, you base can jump any container with parachute in it. It's up to you to know if the canopy, configuration, pilot chute, and container system is going to work for the type/height of BASE jump you're making.
