PC chart

i cant seem to find a chart on any of the manufacturers websites to see their opinions on pilot chute size vs. delay (just wondering their opinions on basic guidlines). or anywhere i suppose as i suck at searching the web. can anyone throw me a link? thanks

Here is the one that BR used to have on their site...

I remember once being told that some jumpers used to use the chart to see how many skulls they could collect

actually my mentor is having me gather this information so we can talk about how to really asess each delay at each object from different altitudes. i keep hearing err on the bigger side with a slightly shorter delay on the slightly lower stuff. thanks for the link dude

The *rough* chart is:

0-1s 46
1-4s 42
4-8s 38
8+ 32

A jumper needs to evaluate each scenario. Are you taking 4 seconds with lots of room for a soft opening then 38 or are you going to be in the fucking basement hence 42. But thats me and what makes me comfortable to do.

I actually never us my 32" anymore.
For terminal tracking jumps and WS jumps I use a 36 to 38" pc.

what's your reason why--for tracking anyway's? Is it for the more positive opening or you have a larger parachute or the location you jump at?

Cuz i've had damn good results at terminal with my vented zp 32" and my 242 and 266 non-vented FLiK's. But maybe one day i wont !!!

same question as fixMe. A 32 is ALOT of drag. more than you need. i've decided going too big is useless and can affect your heading. Now, I've done very limited amount of terminal base jumps so I really want to read your experiences and opinion.

"Use the smallest PC that'll do the job", right?

I think if you have a good track you will be at termial at around 8s.
The vertical speed wil be much slower then if you are falling in a box. And I think the charts have been made with the delay times considering that you fall in a box.
Also I have made now around 150 jumps with this configuration and I only had 1 or 2 hard openings and also with the heading I very rearly have openings with more then 90° on termial jumps. And also heading is not such a big problem because on termial jumps you are always far from the wall.
And then I think it is also my personal feeling (which is not very logical as I have to admit) because in my head I prefere a harder but faster opening, especially in Lauterbrunnen where I don't always pull very high...

OK, i just realized that "mikki zh" is from Switzerland. And i'm assuming most of his jumping experiences are there.

I was talking yesterday with some guys (fellow BASE'ers with more experience than me

) and they were saying that in the Swiss Valley it's very common and a very good idea to use 38's and 36's at most of the place's there.

So now i don't know what to think? Shoot man, i hate thinkn' bout' stuff!!
