    Exclamation School Project- Please Post!

hey everybody Zach and I (Freakshow) are doing a school psych project. I wanted to do "life and death" and zach wanted to do the "psychology behind base". What we came up with is- life after death in the eyes of base-jumpers. We would like to know what all of you think of death, dying, and the afterlife. The more posts the better!!!

    P.S.
We know it sounds dreary, and its prolly quite the downer, but seriously, its for a grade and we need as many posts as possible no matter how small.

    Thank You!

Hey, I see we got a few views, but no posts, dont be afraid to say anything. I did just realize however that the question is pretty huge so I made up some smaller questions to make it a little easier.

    1. First off, do you even believe there is life after death? If yes, did it make it easier for you to get into base?

    2. Do you have a religion that affects your views on the afterlife? If so, what religion do you follow?

    3. Base is considered to be fairly dangerous. Do your views on death and the afterlife make it easier to come to terms with the fact that every jump has the inherent chance for serious accident, or death? yes or no please explain.

    4. Unfortunately some of you may have lost friends or family in Base. Did that loss change your views on the afterlife in any way? please explain

    5. Finally, what originally drew you towards base?

hope that helps us get a few more posts, oh yeah and it would be appreciated if you said if you were male or female.

    Thank You!

    Re: School Project- Please Post!

BASE jumpers are just as "regular"people ,we dont like to get hurt, die or se other do so..
hers my answers to your Q´s:
#1.No i dont belive in a life after death

    #2.Im an atheist

#3.I think my weiv on death is the same as yours.. noone of us would like to go there.I dont understand the after life thing..If i think a jump is going to be my last i climb down and walk away no matter the cost.

#4.Again i dont understand your afterlife thing.. Its not funny that freinds dies,it never will be.But knowing that they lived their life and did what they liked to do is helping feeling to heal as much as they can

#5.I dont know why i started BASEjumping but i enjoed it from my first jump and will do so untill the day i quit or die.

I think your problem in your Q´s are that it seems that YOU belive in a life afterwards..which means you only looking for jumpers beliving in the same..#1 Q is enough about life after death.. you dont really need it in the rest of the Q´s does you? or you´ll have a bunch of people answering as i did in #1 and cant reply on the rest as they dont belive in a life after death..

Genneral i see BASEjumpers as normaly people just having fun in ways that people usaly dont consider normal..
try twist it all 180 degree. now evrybody is BASEjumping but only a small group is playing football, who is normal and why? they all just do what they like..

    Hope this helps abit
btw im often called a girl but am father of 2 kids

Thank you faber, your answers will be very helpful. But the questions weren't meant to sound like we believe in the afterlife. Our hypothesis was that the people who answered would be very comfortable in there outlook on the subject, so we could get one of two outcomes, the interesting one would be if all the answers were generally the same, or the more likely one would be they are all different, showing that there is no correlation between why people base jump and there views on the afterlife.

    P.S.
We are only high school students so feel free to give us advise on how to fix the ?'s like Faber did

?1&2: I think I would be described as agnostic, I dont believe in a conscious life after death, only a recycling of energy. nor do i think any of us has a soul to be bothered with all that afterlife fairytale horse**** the churches portray.
3: I have never done a jump that i actually thought could kill me,(except the first couple but that can all be atributed to not trusting the gear yet) because ladders go down as well as up. as far as getting injured goes..... sometimes you have to pay to play.
4: I've been lucky on this one so far.(knock on morningwood). I havent lost any "friends" only people i had met once or twice in passing. It doesn't feel good but my only mourning is for their family as I know that the jumpers were living an extraordinary life and understood all risks before going down this path. This has not changed my views on the afterlife at all and probably never will.
5: I have always dreamed i could fly.... so i got my private pilots licence. This was kind of fun on bumpy cross wind days but overall very mundane. One day i was flying back into sedona, az when i heard the pilots at Eloy anouncing they were dropping jumpers. That sounded a little more my speed so I learned how as soon as I moved back east. What a waste. I was bored after 50 jumps so i made myself do a couple hundred more and went out to groundcrew the one jumper in my area (untill that f#ckin wanker got himself deported,(miss you dirty)). Did my first base and was imediatly hooked, never been bored since, unless its too windy.
so there it is, hope this helps the project. I am also the father of the smartest 5yr old in the world and I would never do anything that i thought would take me away from her.

    1. well there might b something else for us instore after earthly life... i dont think life just ends with death, but i dont accept like cristians point of view of after-life, belives in hell or heaven.

    2. i do my own religion.

    3. no belive or religion can make it easyer when someone close dyes or gets injured... u just have to belive in your self, in your capabilities, your training and experience, u learn also on others mistakes, but u r sometimes alowed to do also your own mistakes. U never go on the jump thinking i might die, i think if it commes to the fact u r thinking that u r gonna dye, i belive one will do everything to rescue him self from that situation...

    5. wanted to skydive or b a pilot but when i was 16 i didnt have enought KG, so when i turned 19 i started to skydive, but base was something that also came upon my mind like two years after, but after having some crazy ideas of putting together skydiving rig for base purposes i got over it, but then i meet some friends that went thru my first jump and also helped me a lot, they stil do - thanks ciganyz -

    1. First off, do you even believe there is life after death? If yes, did it make it easier for you to get into base?

No. I believe there's no afterlife or any form of concious existence after death.

    2. Do you have a religion that affects your views on the afterlife? If so, what religion do you follow?

    I'm atheist

    3. Base is considered to be fairly dangerous. Do your views on death and the afterlife make it easier to come to terms with the fact that every jump has the inherent chance for serious accident, or death? yes or no please explain.

I'm guessing that your hypothesis is that there is a tendancy for BASE jumpers to believe in an afterlife otherwise they wouldn't be inclined to take such a high risk. I would be very surprised if you found data to support this. Certainly I need a certain amount of faith to jump, but it's a calculated quantifiable faith rather than an unsubstantiated blind faith in philosophical matters. I believe in my training, my abilities and my equipment. That is enough.

    4. Unfortunately some of you may have lost friends or family in Base. Did that loss change your views on the afterlife in any way? please explain

No, I'm not going to change my core beliefs in order to make death easier to come to terms with

    5. Finally, what originally drew you towards base?

It was a very powerful childhood ambition which never went away. I suppose my desire to jump was formed long before my philosophical views of death and the afterlife were conceptualised. Good luck with your project.

    1. First off, do you even believe there is life after death? If yes, did it make it easier for you to get into base?

    Emphatically NO!

    2. Do you have a religion that affects your views on the afterlife? If so, what religion do you follow?

    NO!

    3. Base is considered to be fairly dangerous. Do your views on death and the afterlife make it easier to come to terms with the fact that every jump has the inherent chance for serious accident, or death? yes or no please explain.

As an aethiest I don't have the false comfort that i get another chance in another life. If I **** up and die, that's it. Gone, forever. However, ironically as an aethiest i take comfort from the fact that it didn't upset me not to exist in the infinity of time that stretches out before i was born, so why should i fear the infinity of nothing that stretches ahead after i die. That's the only thing I have to comprehend ME not existing and there is comfort in that.

    4. Unfortunately some of you may have lost friends or family in Base. Did that loss change your views on the afterlife in any way? please explain

NO NO NO NO No! They died. They have gone. No looking down and smiling, no guardian angels, and NO, it made we want to go out and jump even more. I don't know why.

    5. Finally, what originally drew you towards base?

    curiosity and fear
