The REALLY early days of BASE

1912, Eiffel Tower. Good idea, but cleary a pretty lousy design.

I found this old video on the internet. It is a silent movie clip from 1912 when some Frenchy "invented" a flying suit. He held a press conference in which he "proved" that one could jump from the Eiffel Tower and glide safely to the ground. He then demonstrated his invention. It didnt go too well. (silent movie clip. should play automatically.)

Now then, I know we have the benefit of hindsight and nearly 100 years of progression since then but.... that guy was a tool. Not a BASE jumper, just a ****ing idiot with a baggy coat and very little common sense.

A Tool. Ya I agree on that. He has as much common sense as a 6 year old.
Who thinks that an Umbrella is a safe choice for deceleration. When he Jumps Off the Roof of his house.
OHhhhhh wait. That, 6 year old dumb-ass was Me !
    .
But some say that behind every monumental Invention. Is a Dream.

I'm all for the pioneering spirit but where's the method? This guy was no Wright brother, no Leslie Irvin.

I guess the rest of the world looks at BASE jumpers in the same light as we see that guy.

    That's really true indeed.
But we don't give a holy sh|t to what "the rest of the world" thinks about us and we keep on jumping and we keep on opening objects

Ha ha exactly what that guy was trying to do open one incredibly cool object. Just didn't have the tools or the knowledge.
