    Skydiving RIGS vs BASE rigs

I was curious about any regular BASE jumpers that use a skydiving rig for BASE jumping and are there any dangers for doing so. I'm not talking about canopy. I may have at my disposal for B-Day this year a older skydiving rig that I could outfit with a BASE canopy. This would be much cheaper than going new for everything.

    Thanks!

RE: Skydiving RIGS vs BASE rigs

many thousands of jumps have been made at bridge day over the past 2 decades using skydiving (2 container) rigs.

if the canopy packs into the container and you use an appropriate bridle and pilot chute you will likely have no deployment related problems.

the rest of the ride is up to you.

the primary "danger" of using a skydiving rig is that you often have to put extra folds into the canopy to fit it into the container. this increases the chances of an off-heading opening.
can you handle a 180, off a bridge, with swift water and sharp rocks below?

    stay safe,

Yes, it's more dangerous to use a skydiving rig for a base jump, generally. More complicated = More dangerous. But, most people seem to able to pull it off at bridge day. If you believe you can rely on yourself to have good body position, and not kick your d-bag (if you use one), there should not be any problem. I'm also glad to hear that you will be using a base canopy. If it truly is a base-specific canopy, you can free-pack it, which will help you avoid line-twists and off-heading openings.
