Man Jumps Off Salt Lake City Building

Fri Apr 30, 6:26 PM ET

SALT LAKE CITY — Police ticketed a man who parachuted off a downtown building but got tangled on a pole, leaving him suspended above the street.

Carson Douglas Klein made the jump Thursday with two other men off the roof of the 27-story American Towers condominiums. His friends descended safely and fled, but Klein's parachute got caught on a light pole, leaving him hanging about 15 feet above the pavement.

Guards at the building helped Klein down and detained him.

Klein, 27, was ticketed for trespassing and faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted, Detective Kevin Joiner said.

Joiner said the thrill-seekers known as "base jumpers" manage to illegally parachute off Salt Lake City's tall buildings about once or twice a year.

I'm curious if anyone who is in the know can post the legal resolution once it's worked out. Gear confiscation? Eventual fine?

    Anyone know this crew?

    Thanks.

    RE: SLC Bust

Now, I’m no expert on getting arrested for jumping off stuff. But I herd that. Usual fines for just trust passing range around $100-250 plus court cost. They have the opportunity to take the gear if they feel you are a threat to repeat the crime. Now criminal trust pass is a different game that you will want an attorney for. Jail time is a definite possibility you will have to try and prove that you were not criminally trespassing just trespassing. Make sure to bring up how you got in the building (through a public access) and how you got on to the roof (the door was just open, no lock, no guard, wide open, blowing in the wind so we thought that is odd we should go see what is out there, good thing we have our gear in case we fall):P
Believe it or not this strategy does work. Give me some more details or give me a call and I would be glad to help. Remember I’m NO EXPERT. Just a base jumper

Those guys are AWESOME!! AWESOME!! I know Carson and the other two dudes, I will let you know what happens in the long run for punishment. Man that was cool, can't wait to see the vid. Sure is silly that other BASE jumpers commented about it on the news bringing more hype to the happenstance than needs be, even some guy named Ovary that doesn't even live in SLC had two cents for the news team. I guess we all want to be famous. I know I do. When are we gonna get a ski BASE forum.. we skied off the Eiger in two different spots just below the mushroom then rappelled to a third... damn we are cool. McShane did a double front flip offf of it.

Those guys out in Salt Lake are AWESOME!!

    Hey,
The news got the basics okay, but pretty much embellished the rest. All he got was a misdemeanor tresspass ticket which will result in a small fine. NO 1,000 dollar fine or jail. The cops were actually pretty cool about the whole thing. The media did a good job of getting carried away and making the boys look like "daredevils" and "arrogant" punks.

As for my opinion, for anyone who cares, after seeing the video I have to publicly say Carson kicks ass. He opened up in a tight spot with little to no time for corrections, but he kept his head and managed to pull off quite the acrobatic landing without getting hurt.

    Happy Jumping

    Hey,

Send me an email. I'm moving into my new place in Twin Falls tomorrow, so we'll practically be neighbors again...
