For months now, there has been this "B" that has been viewed by many, and up until recently, jumped by none... or so I think. A Street landing is not an option which is why there have been no takers. (unless there has been)
After a few brief scouting missions, and weather not in favor of an attempt, My partner went out solo and re-measured everything, took pictures, and found as much pertainent information as he could.
The other day, I had to go into the area for non BASE reasons. Theres room for my equipment so It comes with. I asked my BASE partner to come up there as well so re-scout the *B*. The weather was supposed to suck so he shows up at my house convinced there would be no jumping this night. <insert-- *Always Bring Your Equipment With YOU*-- here>
I took care of my un-related business and we headed over to the *B* ... and what do you know, the-air-was-still!!!! (fright sets in) After walking the area one more time we decided to take a look inside. Me with my equipment in hand, and him kicking himself in the ass, armed with only binoculars and a radio. An arial view revealed the potential Landing areas. The Binoculars were a MUST HAVE peice of equipment in order to determine what Really lied below.
To make what could be an even longer story shorter, I'll skip much of our exploration of the *B* I put on as Much Body Armor as was available, which included elbow pads over some motorcycle body armor, Hip Pads... etc. This is one of those times where tons of Bubble wrap and an exo-skeleton would have been nice. He walked down and got into position to view the jump and come get me or assist if needed.
Rig on, Gear checks made, , Launch practiced, Opening scenarios practiced, Landing scenarios practiced..... It was time to climbout to the Over Hung Launch point which took some serious creativity.
What a view!... Now it was time, Nice Launch, about 1 1/2 second delay. WHACK... On heading (whew) Multiple landing areas in site, big fat flat one in site and in range, Sunk it in and Got on the Radio ASAP since I was now out of Ground crews View. "It's all good!.... I'll be out in a few".
The Moral Of this story is, My BASE partner ROCKS!! He did so much research, and insisted on taking a look, even though he didn't have his equipment. We both re-assessed it when we were there, but as far as I was concerned this was his... and he let me have it.
One could argue that I was a wind drift indicator.. ;-) or proof of concept :7 The next day was his turn... :)
You Rock dude! Thanks for making that jump possible.
