    Retire Base #44

I am sick to death of hearing self-pity and martyrism as penned by that whuffo Robin. If you do not skydive, you cannot keep your JM, TM, instructor, IE, other ratings current. If you don't jump, you have withdrawn from the sport and are not allowed to influence jumpers or the sport using your rating. This precedent should be used in base.

If some know it all jackoff tries to ruin the sport by demanding respect and attention (obviously lacking in the rest of their sad life) that they do not deserve, and further, if said jackoff acts like they are a current authority in the sport, then their "rating" in the sport should be rescinded.

Robin loves to remid us all that he managed to fall off of a few objects without killing himself back in the 1980s. He uses his low base number to bludgeon this board with his empty and useless invective. His "44" is his last shred of credibility.

    Take it away from him.

We as a community have to deal with the pariahs and gadflys somehow. Insulting the dipstick seems only to encourage his tantrums. Let us simply remove 44 from the sequence. Let us go courageously from 43 straight to 45 and leave the sad legacy of 44 where it belongs, mouldering in the 80s.

Go ice skating Robin. Maybe they will let you drive the Zamboni. That should suitably inflate your tiny, sad sense of self importance.

    Yo Dirtbag,
not to be one to delve into your message. But your first sentence says it all. You do have a choice in the matter of what you hear. Itīs called power. Coincidently, thereīs a button on your computer by the same name. It works the same way.
I feel you are trying to enforce your censorship ideas on others. While I donīt agree with all of Robins arguments, I think it should be left upon the individual to decide. Itīs kinda simple isnīt it? Freedom of choice? Why do you wish to deny others the power to make their own choice, think about it. no answer needed to me. only to yourself..
    take care,

    Space:

The freedom of speech that is supposed to exist in the USA and other nations does so with certain limitations. For example, it is generally accepted that shouting "fire" in a crowded theater without cause is not covered by most individual's freedom of speech.

This forum is not a constitutionally mandated medium for all to use to express themselves. Rather, it is a service and a tool for a tiny number of embattled BASE jumpers who face prejudice and strange preconceptions about the sport. It is a rare and special area on the net where good information, friendliness and respect are the general rule.

    Then there is Robin.

He does nothing and has done nothing with or for the sport of base jumping since the last time he cheated death with his antiquated and all too thin skill set. The fact he managed to flop off of a few objects when Reagan was in office qualifies him neither as an authority on the sport nor as a credible organizer of events within the sport. His comments and influence are toxic and BASE would be a better place if he simply vanished in a whisp of greasy smoke.

Robin has basic rights. He does not, however, come equipped with a specific right to contaminate the sport of BASE or the sport's primary forum with his bad information and tortured opinion.

As a community, we have the ability to choose who speaks for and with us. Robin is a irritant at best and a destructive force at worst. Given the great lengths we go to keep BASE in a positive position in the public eye, closing this forum to those who aspire only to profit and power is not censorship, it is just common sense.

Cheers for the thoughts Space. I admire your ability to find space in your world for even the wretched and pathetic person that Robin has become.

I don't know for sure, but it seems that not many people listen to Mr. Heid's rants with a serious ear. I find them entertaining (for one reason or another) most of the time.
Proposing that a person's BASE number be taken away, though, is really letting things get outside the scope of reality. A number is not a rating. Your USPA license numbers don't disappear when your ratings lapse, right?
To paraphrase a wise Spaceman, we all have the option to ignore the occasional manifesto posted here.
Plus, most of the stuff we post is really useless. This board is like hanging around the local bar, except for the lack of refreshments. Hell, I am getting kind of thirsty now that I think of it.
    Love,
    Joe

    RE: Retire Base #44

I'm with you dirtbag, I say we revoke and extirpate snide's meaningless BASE number just to show our disdain for his worthless dribble...

I used to read his meaningless words after he would attack a friend of mine just out of curosity. After a while, I realized trying to read that crap was like trying to drink from a firehose hooked up to one of those swiss tractors that spreadsthat stinky ##### on the laready green pastures - a shitload of meaningless crap being shot at your face...

Nowadays, I momentarliy glance at his dribble and think to myself how glad I am to not be (in the words of feral) such a "spooling toaster!"

    Whew!

    :* :-( x( &-) }> :'( :o :* :+ :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(
    :-)

7, I got my snide bashing in for the week....&-)
