Aussie detained in Malaysia for groping attendant

AP - An Australian national has been detained for allegedly molesting a stewardess aboard a Malaysian Airlines flight from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, police said.

It was the third case of alleged attacks onboard Malaysian Airlines flights in the past two months.

Local police chief Mohamad Shukri Dahlan told The Associated Press that the 37-year old Australian had been remanded six days for investigations.

He declined to specify possible charges against the suspect, who was travelling with his girlfriend to attend a business seminar in Malaysia on Thursday. Mohamad also refused to provide details of the suspect, citing police regulations.

The Star daily quoted unnamed airport officials as saying that the suspect allegedly groped a 29-year old stewardess while walking back to his seat during the six-hour flight.

Confronted by the cabin crew supervisor, the suspect apologised to the stewardess but the aircraft pilot had radioed the control tower to complain.

Security officials at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport detained the Australian as he alighted from the aircraft and handed him over to police.
