    The Great Nugget Competition . . .

    Space sez

"P.S. Nick, is there gonna be a winner thingy? Are we gonna get to vote and stuff?"

    Yes and No.

Yes, there is going to be a winner and no, you don't get to vote. But . . . there are prizes!

We'll keep the competition open until 11:00 AM Pacific (California) time. At 11:30 three winners will be announced. (Yes, it is raining here).

    Prizes:

1st Place, Complete REACTOR & FOX . . . no scratch that, 1st place, One BASE Log Book.

2nd Place, Basic Research T-shirt (in one of the colors that isn't moving).

3rd Place, your choice of one, either 3 yds of 80 pound breakcord or 3 replacement Basic Research Tail Gates.

There will also be several honorable mentions.

Winning entries should be original, be attributed to someone, plus have the ability to make you think, laugh, cry, etc.

Winners will be notified by e-mail and asked for a shipping address in order to collect prizes. Basic Research reserves the right to alter or substitute any prize mentioned above, and also reserves the right to not come across with anything at all.

    Have Fun!

And the Winning Nuggets Are . . .

Okay everyone, after considering some last minute e-mail entries here they are, the top three winning Nuggets.

But first, a word from our sponsors.

Basic Research is now shipping the new "REACTOR 4"

This is the latest version of our popular Velcro closed container.

    A quick looksee:

The container in more voluminous than earlier models (this makes for an easier pack job and puts less collateral forces on the shrivel flap). There is a new tuck flap (an air dam if you will) at the leading edge of the shrivel flap. (This prevents the leading edge from peeling back in a high speed tracking position). The cutaway handle has been re-designed, it is now smaller, less snagable, and accessibly hidden under the right main lift web.

The harness of the new REACTOR 4 is made using what we call "solid state" construction. (This means it's a true "wrap around" harness, and any failure of the stitching will not result in a total failure of the harness).

And now back to the competition . . .

First, thanks to all who took the time to jot down their favorite Nugget. All the entries were good ones. In fact, if you can understand the meaning behind all of them, you can consider yourself a very knowledgeable BASE jumper, on the other hand, if you don't, well, at least you know where you stand . . .

Also, I could have cheesed out and awarded the prizes to all the dead authors, but I didn't. :-)

    Okay . . .

Third Place and the winner of either 3 yds of 80 pound breakcord or three Basic Research Tailgates is:

"I'm sorry my sport interrupted your sport"

    by Earl Redfern

Second Place, and a Basic Research T-shirt goes to:

    "F**k the Rangers, Boo-Boo! There's a pic-a-nic basket down there."

    By BASE 281

First place and the grand prize, one Basic Research Log Book goes to . . . . (and this has always been one my favorites),

"While the normal man sleeps, the BASE man leaps."

    by Amy Baily
(I'll need Amy's e-mail address, if someone has it).

And now for the Honorable Mentions:

    3rd Honorable Mention goes to:

    "Should we run?"

    By Sub-Term

    2nd Honorable Mention goes to:

"It's like facing a firing squad, and they all miss."

    by Basement

    1st Honorable Mention goes to:

"It just doesn't seem so crazy anymore now that I think I know what I'm doing!"

    By BASE 460
(This one was a serious contender for the 3rd place prize)!

    Thanks again all!

    "HEY EARL"

    Hello Earl,

I need a shipping address in order to send your third place prize of either 3 yds of 80 pound breakcord or 3 replacement Tailgates.

If for some reason you have no need for these things, let me know, and I'll send five bucks in your name (and explain where it came from) to Dennis instead.

BTW, I am still looking for contact info on 1st place winner Amy Baily.

    Cheers,
    Nick_BR

    ALL TO DENNIS, PLEASE

    Nick,

If I knew that by sharing some of these quotes with everyone that I could help Dennis and Brenda, I would have posted an entire volume. Please send anything to them. They have made great sacrifices, I just run my mouth. All the best.

    Earl

RE: And the Winning Nuggets Are . . .

    Thanks, Nick!!

And, thanks for inviting us all to play.

Those beaudacious ta-ta's will be honored and privileged to sport your B.R. Tee! And, of course, I'll make you proud and do it in grand style.

    :-)

(This was a helluva lot easier than earning my HERD shirt!
    ...And no hangover!)
