How big generally is each story? Does anyone have some good advice on judging altitudes besides using a laser range finder?
Thanks in Advance,

If you can get acess to a stairwell,
you can measure one set of stairs quite easily.
If you don't have a tape measure,
you can measure a stair set with a nine foot bridle.
Then just do the math.
The best you can do without a laser is get a close "ballpark" estimate. I have a Suunto altimeter watch that has proved handy an infinate amount of times. I have a building that I take it up on regularly and it has been acurate to about plus or minus 20 feet. I have also had luck measuring the height of one story and then multiplying it by the # of floors. But, you have to make sure all the floors are the same height if your going to do that. One of ours buildings here has 32 floors and a structural height of 495 feet. Most of the floors are about 12 feet, but the first 2 floors are larger and the service floors at the top or 25+ feet. So watch for that. One other hint......go check out this website. Your gonna love it.

Just remember to contact a local before you go using any info you find there. I have found a couple of errors on the heights given so don't rely upon that info alone.
All of techniques will help you determine your building height, but for those lower buildings your going to need a laser to be sure.
peace...good luck...stay safe!
