This is an ILLEGAL scam by the NPS to get social security numbers of active U.S. jumpers so that they can track them more closely.
KNOW THIS: It is a felony for a federal government agency -- ANY federal government agency -- to demand your social security number for any purposes not related to taxation. I think this also applies to a STATE agency demanding your social security number too.

This is NOT a slam on badenhop; he just doesn't know any better. See the CFRs... this demand by government is ILLEGAL.
It is a CRIME for the government to demand this, and the ESCUSE they are using to shut down Bridge Day, which NPS has been trying hard to do, as it flies in the face of their "2001 Management Policies" document which "prohibits" BASE jumping in all NPS units.
Refuse to do this. CALL YOUR CONGRESSMEN AND SENATORS and tell them of this ILLEGAL DEMAND by state and local authorities.

if someone signs up now and sends in the required info will they be allowed to reg as they usually have signed there every year they have been there and planned on doing so this year so if they send in info and reg fee like they would have done there that day can they jump ?this seems like a huge infringement on our rights with a tragedy being used to force it through as a reason of national security thanx for your time and could you let me know an answer thanx till later have fun & love each other seeya mb65

It's my understanding that they are going to establish security at each end and ban backpacks, coolers, strollers, etc., on the bridge. They want our ID's because we are going to be the only people allowed to carry anything onto the bridge (our rigs).

Sounds clearly like an NPS scam to me. I always said if we all banned together and DIDN'T SHOW UP for Bridge Day, they'd pay US to be there next year. Without us, there is no Bridge Day.

Dude, I mean no disrespect (your entitled to your views and I respect that), but I think you may be a few biscuits shy of breakfast.
Do you really think the NPS wants to track everyone's Social Security Numbers? Do you think that they will follow you around every day? Heck, they might even track you with satellites once your identified!
The NPS is wrong in their persecution of BASE jumpers and they do go to somewhat extraordinary lengths in Yosemite, but face it bro, they are just out to bust BASE jumpers as they see them, or get info that a jump is going to take place.
Will they violate your rights to catch you - there's a real chance of this happening! But I don't think that having my Social Security Number (SSN) is going to do anything for them nor do I think that they will track me via satellite. We're simply jumping off cliffs for Christ's sake.
I jump all the time in National Parks and they have no idea who I am or the fact that me or my parachute was ever there. How do I do this you say? CAREFUL PLANNING and proper execution -- that is the key to jumping in our National Parks.
As for SSN's needed for Bridge Day...wake up and smell the coffee. Well over 6,000 American lives were lost 3 weeks ago today. Do you even think for a moment that they won't increase security at a major event like this where 100,000+ lives could be taken in a single swipe?
The government has every right to request your SSN and it is not against the law. Before you get all fired up, please read the following statement that will coincide with what I just said.
You giving your SSN to the government/state officials is strictly voluntary. But not doing so will most likely hamper your abilities to jump during the Bridge Day event. Bridge Day is not a constitutional right (although it should be) and is strictly a voluntary recreational activity. For that reason, they may request your SSN all day long.
I hope you don't take this personal, I simply have a different view of the NPS, the government, and their desire to "track BASE jumpers". Quite honestly, they have more important things on their hands. I should know, because I am one of them. And the beauty is, they don't even know it.
