Insurance for Basejumping – Insurance carriers dropping plans/coverage
Web Administrator Wednesday, 12 February 2014Costs of claims and accidental deaths cause insurance carriers to cancel plans
Well, we’re looking for an adventure sports plan to again cover basejumping as the one sports plan we had from Trawick announced it was excluding Basejumping as of last week (A great plan- unfortunately no longer for basejumpers). After a recent spate of high claims and two deaths in the past month, insurance for basejumpers (which was always a challenge to find) just got practically impossible to underwrite. It doesn’t mean we’ve given up on basejumpers, only that we need to find someone else who will underwrite it *– but for the moment, you’re out of luck.PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Plans by World Nomads, HCC (such as Atlas) and Seven Corners (such as Liaison) will not protect you if you submit a claim due to stress fractures, concussion, etc, due to participating in your sport. And basejumping is NOT accepted under parachuting or skydiving. Our understanding is that Specialty Risk International is excluding base jumps as well, but we’ll let you know.
An IMPORTANT NOTE: Regarding ANY optional sports rider or inclusion – It is important that your sport is LISTED in the fine print AND you are operating within the understood parameters of your sport. We at GNI encourage you to clarify, in writing, any coverage you believe you are insured for, before participation in an extreme or potentially hazardous sport.
If you are a basejumper and hear of an insurance plan for either Americans basejumping in America, or for internationals (either in America or overseas) we’d love to hear about it! Email mark@gninsurance.com

Currently we are only aware of basejumping insurance policies for U.K. residents and Generali in Switzerland.
