Phoenix-Fly - R&D 2014 Update 04/02/2014
Despite the winter snow still waiting to melt, we’ve been working hard both on the mountains and in the factory to bring you some great new products. Spending the last three months skydiving and BASE jumping, we’ve started the final testing and development phase of three new suits and a number of specialised product features that will be released over the next few months:
A new 'big brother' for the successful Vampire 5, designed with greater glide power, whilst keeping the agility and speed the Vampire is famous for. The Vampire R will not replace the Vampire 5, but will be an added choice in the PF product line-up.
A brand new high performance wingsuit, designed from the ground up. A follow up to the Venom, but with more power and lots of new features for both performance oriented BASE jumpers and skydivers. An updated version of the 'classic' acrobatic powerhouse, that set the standard when it comes to agile, acrobatic flying in both BASE and skydiving environments.
Over the last year, we’ve also been testing an exciting new option. Called ‘Fins’, we developed and tested custom designed carbon fiber blades on the V5 which led to a new level of sharpness and accuracy in the flying abilities of the suit. Working in a similar manner to the fins on a surfboard, they give the tail end of the suit a sharper carving ability, meaning tighter and faster lines. The fins, will be available as an option on the Vampire 5, Vampire Race and Venom Power. We will also offer the addition of fins on older V-series suits (Venom, Vampire, Viper)
We’re still working hard, and these three suits are the first of a whole series of updated suits in the Phoenix-Fly range. We have a strong group of designers and wingsuit pilots putting the suits through their paces to make sure you the customer is never used as an unwilling test-pilot, and always receive a standard and finalised product. Each product we release has been in active testing in a skydiving and BASE jumping environment from 4 months up to at least a full year.
We will continue to offer the lightweight Cameron material. Saving weight, while retaining strong flight characteristics. Unlike other 'light weight' fabric options on offer in the market, the Cameron fabric we use is actually stronger than normal zero-p material, and requires no special care or handling. Tried, tested and available on our suits for over 6 years and counting.
2014 will be an amazing year, with lots of exciting things coming. Keep an eye on our website for the full details on these suits coming soon.
Sincerely,
