BASE Jumper Injures Leg after Jumping Off Hansen Bridge

TWIN FALLS • A man was transported by medical helicopter Sunday afternoon when he suffered a leg injury after BASE jumping off the Hansen Bridge.
According to Sgt. Matt West of the Jerome County Sheriff’s Office, Servesh Dhadwal, 43, apparently landed on a rock island near the bottom of the bridge at about 3:53 p.m. He was at the bridge with two acquaintances; West was unsure of their place of residence.
An Air St. Luke’s helicopter arrived at the scene about a half-hour later, landing on the rock island and transported Dhadwal to the hospital, West said. West said the initial report indicated the BASE jumper had a broken leg, but he was unable to confirm that, but verified Dhadwal had a lower-leg injury.
Dhadwal’s friends were initially planning to throw hiking poles down to him in which to splint the leg and intended to help him out of the canyon themselves. Given the rugged trail out of the bottom of the canyon, “I don’t think that would have worked very well,” West said.
He was unsure whether any of Dhadwal’s friends successfully jumped off the bridge before the accident.
