I had leg cutaways installed before taking my suit off objects. If you're fast on the leg zippers, you might not need it, but I cut away my legs about 35% of the time.
If you don't open the legs somehow, you could end up tearing the leg wing, and it's far easier to carry an extra cutaway handle than it is to get the leg wing fixed in the middle of a road trip.

I had my rigger (who is also a Birdman dealer) install the cut away. I had him put them on both legs (I believe the factory system has just one leg).
If you're not in a hurry (which I would guess you are not), your best bet is undoubtedly just to send it back to Birdman and have them do the work.

I fly the generaion 2 suit. After reading this thread, I am interested in getting this done to my suit as well.... any idea on cost for having the leg cutaway systems installed?
My rigger charged me around US$200 for both cutaways. I don't know how much Birdman charges for a retrofit.

Yo !
I have LQRS on my Skyflyer, but surprisingly i've just realized that i never had to use it. When i'm open high i get zippers undone, but often i just land without doing anything. With BASE canopies it didn't seem to be a problem so far - i rarely need to run on landing, if anything it will be a PLF. In fact, on my old Classic i couldn't snap the booties over my hiking boots and sometimes used a pull-up cord to tie them up - making it impossible to free the legs under canopy. Never had a problem with that, and the suit is still going... ;-)
Nevertheless, like Tom said - a torn wing would really suck. LQRS is a good option just in case.
bsbd!
Yuri.
P.S. You really need to free your legs if you are landing a fast skydiving canopy, but there you normally have plenty of time.
Thanks All
