    video friendly lap top

Can anyone suggest a good lap top computer and/or software that can handle editing BASE videos. Im a trucker who drives/jumps all 48 and canada; Ive got a bit of BASE videos from the last 3-4 years Id like to edit into "movies", but Im not particularly computer savvy. One bottleneck is that the camera ive been using is a sony digital IP-55 camcorder which apparently uses a format that is difficult to either communicate with pc camcorders or download video onto some computers/computer formats. Something about it outputting its digital images in analog (although that makes no sense). According to Aiello, the apple mac wont even recognize my cameras existence, although Im told that the apple is a premium video handling laptop.

The scenario: Me in the truck on the road with a laptop and the camcorder, with a tv vhs vcr in the truck, an s-video cable, and the yellow white red video hookups to the tv. What can work "in the field" without a "real pc" or home station.

Sorry, just trying to get a feel for the possibilities before talking to the salespeople, thanks! denparbasejmpr@yahoo.com

Hi Dennis, we thought you were dead.

Have you cross posted this over on Dropzone.com in the photography and video forum yet?
Just a suggestion to help you get the info you are needing. Them skydivers are big time into video editing stuff.

You want a Mac (apple) with Adobe Final Cut Pro.

Or just a Mac with iMovie. Same setup you saw me, Coombsie and Douggs using in Norway.

But, Dennis, you're going to have to trade that POS IP camera in for a real mini-DV camera (PC or TRV series) if you want to edit.

Hello Denpar, I use an iBook, it's a Mac. Small, handy. With the proper camera, you can plug right in, plus it has CD burner built in. iMovie is standard with the machine, but Titanium Toast offers output options, like DVD, straight digital, Quicktime...... Tom is correct, you need to get a real mini-DV cam. With that old thing your not going to do too well on any laptop.

    thanks

Thanks for the replies. I picked up a powerbook g4 with iMovie. With a 300.00 canopus Advanced Digital Video Converter (advc100) the mac reads my ip55 without problems. The advc apparently can convert anything into anything to go on whatever from whatever. Including 8mm. Appreciate it! :-)
