very well said thank you
very well said thank you
Does anyone know if Shawn is home? I am a friend of Erin's. Knew her all my life. I did not get to meet him at the funeral. I would like him to know that I for one do not blame him. Erin lived life to the fullest. I wish that we could all live like she did.
He was here briefly but went to SC to help Erin's sister pack her apartment, I think. He should be back here the first part of the week.
Despite what has been said, I think Shawn understands, as do we any of us who are being honest, that it was Erin's decision to step make the jump. Shawn was actually verbally attacked at Erin's funeral by Erin's ex-fiancee and a friend of his who was apparently Erin's skydiving instructor and who claimed that Erin wasn't even a competent skydiver (although, he did sign her off...puzzling). The only other person who has voiced a negative opinion is someone else who was apparently interested in Erin whose feelings for her were not returned. It is becoming obvious that the people who are trying to assign blame are people who have other issues unrelated to her BASE jumping.
Keith,That is sad that they verbally attacked him there. That is to bad. I am glad that he could go and help pack up her things. How hard that much be for then all. Her poor sister. Please let Shawn know he is in my thoughts and prayers. I really enjoy this board as I am learing what base jumping was. Thank you all for that..
Dawn (it is you, isn't it?), thanks so much, you have no idea how much some of us appreciate your kind words. Let us know if you're ever passing through, we'd love to meet you. Reading this or the rec.skydiving boards only gives you a very small part of the picture...the lifelong friendships we gain from the people who share our passion for life are what all of this is truly about.
Peace and love,
Keith
Nope it is not Dawn. But I know her too. I went to school w/ Erin for 12 years.I found this searching for anything that I could on what happened and what Base jumping is about. This page stood out to me and helped alot. You would not know me as I am sure Erin did not talk about me. I had seen her only a couple times since we got out of school. But she is an awesome person. One that I am glad that I knew..
I can see by your post that you obviously no nothing about Erin or the sport.
Having made some base jumps does not make you a base jumper or a viable critic. You should keep your comments to your skydivng friends who think you know somthing about BASE.
Buy the way, were you not one of her mentors? you must really suck as an instructor. If she was an incompetent as you suggest then who signed her off as quilfied to skydive??????
I think you know the answers to these questions.
have a Go Way Low day
I just found this page. I feel for you all that knew Erin. I went to school w/ her but had only seen her a couple times in the last eleven. She was a great person. Lived life to the fullest. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers..
Sorry for the late entry, just found this site. To clarify things, I was at the funeral in Wyoming and Shawn did not get verbally attacked by Erin's ex-fiancee at the funeral. Reason? he wasn't there. They hadn't even seen each other in over 3 yrs. Also, NONE of her instructors were there either. I think it is important for us to have all the information and not just rely on 1 person's account about what happened in Wyoming. I would never agree with verbally attacking anyone, esp. in this circumstance, but I do respect and understand the need for her family and her friends to have some answers. Unfortunately, we didn't get them. I appreciate the posting of the witness' account of what happened on Brento. I pray that was really what occurred. Unfortunately, I have heard so many things so many different ways, I don't know what to believe.
Respectfully,
Another friend of Erin
I am another friend of Erins and I was at her funeral. The so-called "verbal attack" on Shawn was not a response of a jealous jilted person and was not an attack against skydivers. The night before the funeral Erins family and friends were celebrating her life at her parents house and Shawn came there. Although everyone understood he had been through a horrible experience there were some bad feelings there due to hearing a lot of different things about him and a lot of contradictory stories from him. While I give him credit for going there and facing people who did not treat him very well, I think his timing was a little inappropriate. There were many questions on the way that Shawn handled the situation and many feel that he was a little disrespectful to Erin's family and friends. I do not feel the need to go into details but I wanted those reading this board to understand that there are other reasons for the unsettled feelings that her friends and family have.
