RE: Letter from Dann Lee

I attended the Petronas event last year and had a great time. Slim and the Lee's are excellent organizers. I highly recommend going. It's well worth the value. 27 jumps from two very cool exits - all in the middle of the day! 7 or 8 nights in a nice hotel. A great meal every morning. A great time hanging out with many of my friends from around the globe, and a chance to make new ones from all over the place - for $550.00?! You can't get a vacation like that for that price. No way.

The Lee's should be rewarded for their efforts. Who says you should be a BASE jumper to organize and event anyway? Many of the organized BASE events in the past were VERY poorly organized - and who organized them? BASE jumpers. The Lee's are intelligent enough to hire people like Slim, Dwain, Anne, etc. Slim should be rewarded for his hard work as the hired organizer. The politics involved to make this thing happen are very complicated and a crap load of boring political meetings and negotiations goes into it, let alone the time organizing it - sifting through the jumpers and organizers, etc!

What the hell is all this squable about? Is there an EGO problem? (OK, I couldn't help but state the obvious }( ). What a waste of time. Why attempt to sabatoge an event that is so excellent? The Lee's have earned this event - leave it alone. Again, if the opportunity presents itself, I highly recommend going. You won't be disappointed.

Slim: maybe you should think about lowering the hard-deck at this years event...:P But, I won't be there, so actually no worries...:+

RE: BASE organizers?

Somehow you missed the point. Maybe because you have an attitude towards me, you fail to read objectively. The first ever Petronas event was organized by Robin, with help from Dennis and myself. The Lees tout the world record as a great success, but without credit to their helpers. We have since been ousted. Next in line was Mark, and by his own words, was also then ousted. Next, Dwain, Anne and Johnny. Dwain is unavailable for comment, maybe Anne and Johnny will comment. I notice neither of them have returned to Petronas to organize. Slim is an accomplished BASE jumper, and is returning. There is no problem there, except, in my opinion, who he is helping. The other unfortunate helpers, namely the Malaysian BASE jumpers themselves, who have done a lot for the Lees, are also now not involved with the Lees. Do you see a pattern? Aziz has been organizing @ KL Tower, but the Lees have been trying to STOP him. What other BASE events organized by actual BASE jumpers have been run poorly? Ego is mentioned, and Dann and Jasmina have HUGE egos.

>Aziz has been organizing @ KL Tower

Do you have any info? I'd much rather go to a KL tower fun jumping type event than a Petronas comp.

RE: BASE organizers?

Hi Tom,

Yes, there will be some fun events next year with a nominal entry fee.

I'll do my best to keep everyone informed.

Hi Avery

Just wondering a few things What is your main Problem with them . That they are charging money to jump there ?

Funny that because I heard somethings about the event you were in charge of that they ( the chinese ) would supply the airfaires and rooms for FREE and then you turned around and charged the jumpers you must of had your reasons not shore what they would have been , but I find it amusing that you have it in for them because of the money that they are taking off jumpers .

would like your responce on this as if I am wrong I would like to be put right.

>...they ( the chinese ) would supply the airfaires and rooms for FREE and then you turned around and charged the jumpers...

Having been to events organized by Avery in Malaysia, I can say that this was not the case. The hotels generally had jumper discounts, which you were free to take advantage of (or not) by staying at the "sponsor" hotel. The hotel bill was each jumper's individual responsibility, and paid directly to the hotel (not the organizers).

As a side note, I paid significantly less for hotel accomodations at the KL/AS tower jumps than I did at last years Petronas event (even if you include registration fees for both events in the hotel cost).

Come on guys, I know you are unlikely to just get along, but please...I was tired of hearing about politics in Malaysia about two years ago.

Ooops. Wrong login. This post was made by Tom Aiello, on a borrowed computer, whilst on BASE road trip. Thanks to Zennie.

RE: feral

All $ issues aside, the main Problem is the WHO.
The SLees ARE NOT jumpers, they HOSE jumpers.

It takes $ to run an event, paid by jumpers and by other sources.
We spent a lot of our own money, and jumper money for events.
We have tried to make a living at the same time.
That's a lot different than saying we are not for profit.
I would rather have jumpers give Aziz a million $ to run Petronas,
than for anyone to give the Lees one penny to do squat.

But feral seems to miss the point completely.
Open your eyes man, the Malaysian BASE jumpers are getting hosed.
The Lees NEED BASE jumpers to help them!
If no BASE jumpers will help the Lees, then they will go away.
Then the Malaysian BASE jumpers can run their own events,
which is something that should be supported by BASE jumpers.

PS. You don't really seem to know the facts about who paid for what.

Letter from Dann Lee

Dear Friends,
Dann, you assume quite a bit calling BASE jumpers "friends",
what makes you think you have friends here?

We submit the following information regarding the Malaysia International
Xtreme Skydive Association (MIXSA) to clear some of the bad vibes created by
certain individuals on the B.A.S.E. board.
Dann, who is "we", you have a rat in your pocket?

1. MIXSA is registered with the Registrar of Companies (ROC) of Malaysia with
Association number 875 as a Non Governmental Organization (NGO). (1)Its board
of committees don‚t get paid and it is a not for profit organization that develop
and promote sports in the country. (2)Although Dann & Jasmina are not B.A.S.E.
jumpers, MIXSA has got Technical and International Directors around the World,
who are B.A.S.E. jumpers and among the best in the industry. (3)Organizing need
good organizers, Technical Directors must be good in technical. (4)MIXSA has got
a combination of the best people in different fields to organize and hold
successful B.A.S.E. events.

1. If you are not for profit, what did you do with the RM450,000 you extorted from three Malaysian Government branches?
2. Exactly, Dann and Jasmina are NOT BASE jumpers. Who are your "Technical and International Directors", and by what criteria do you categorize them as being among the best in the industry?
3. What? Air must be good air, and food must be good food. What's the point?
4. What people? Which fields?

2. (5)MIXSA is not new in the B.A.S.E. community. We have organized 4 major
events. (6)Two World B.A.S.E. Cup with another one this year, one World Record
B.A.S.E. jump and one exhibition B.A.S.E. jump.

5. Dann, get real! You are NOT IN the BASE community. And, MIXSA is VERY new. Two years old is NEW. (Not to mention you stole the very idea of MIXSA from one of your previous organizers).
6. What makes your competition a "World BASE Cup"? Is it just the fact that you tagged that title to it? Who helped you achieve that World record? Who choreographed that exhibition?

3. (7)MIXSA has been actively promoting B.A.S.E. in Malaysia with road shows at
popular shopping Malls. (8)The public is being educated on the sport. (9)It is
important to create awareness and educate the public on B.A.S.E. to bring it to
greater heights.

7. How can you promote something of which you know nothing?
8. How can you educate someone on a subject of which you know nothing?
9. The blind leading the blind, at best.

4. (10)Previous MIXSA events had been officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia,
Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism
Malaysia and Deputy Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism Malaysia.

10. So you had some big-shots show up, how exactly does that benefit BASE jumpers and the sport of BASE jumping?

5. (11)The Ramp will remain on the 73rd Floor as in all previous championships.
There will be no changes and we are going ahead as planned.

11. So you still haven't figured out a way to jump from the top?

Dann, you must have a patsy of a BASE jumper on your payroll, which is a shame for him. He should not help you ruin his sport and his own good name and reputation for your sake, and it is only a matter of time before you will burn him as you have burned ALL your organizers. Have ANY of your staff EVER returned for a second event?

Dear friends and others, Dann Lee and his sister Jasmina, and their so-called MIXSA is a sham, a fake, and a fraud. MIXSA is nothing more than a made-up organization, whose origin is from another real-life BASE jumper, and was simply stolen from the BASE jumper. MIXSA is being used as a front so that the Lees can extort large sums of (not very valuable) Malaysian Ringgit from tha Malaysian Government. Sure, jumping from the Petronas is great fun, and a BASE trophy, but the ends do not justify the means. The Malaysian BASE brothers are not even involved in this Malaysian BASE event! That would be like having a BASE event in Lauterbrunnen, in which no Swiss BASE jumpers were to participate. If BASE jumpers had the strength of character to "Just say no to MIXSA", the Lees would fall under the wheels that keep BASE churning, and the Malaysian BASE bro's would continue to have us BASE jumping all over Malaysia in peace, and not under the tyranny of the ego driven Lees.
