did you ever see the pics of John Anderson?

I think it was about 75 feet based on the fact that it was a 100 foot ladder that was at an angle. I have a side video that shows the angle of the ladder.

That's the one I was talking about... Didn't realize it was that much shorter than I recalled. Nice one.

Re: Question about Golden Gate Bridge jump

Spiders jump was caught on tape!!! I got a call from a production company out of Southern California to deliver a Jet Ski rental to Horse Shoe bay (Fort Baker) at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge. I had no idea why they wanted a jet ski in the winter but they agreed to pay me good money to deliver it from Petaluma(about 50 miles north of the bridge). I was told they were going to film a commercial. I showed up like they wanted very early in the morning well before dawn. There were quite a few guys there. I was asked to show one guy how the Yamaha wave runner worked. The rider had a camera to film from his location on the watercraft also I was told a camera man was going to hike down the cliffs just north of the bridge and film from that point. When the filming was done he was going to hike down to the beach and get picked up buy the guy on my jetski (AEF Watercraft Rentals) I was in business from 1995-2002. Right after my jetski headed out of the bay they turned the camera on me and asked "do you know what we are going to do?" I said to the camera what they told me and then they said "Not exactly. We are here to pick up a base jumper (Spider) who is going to jump off the north tower." I was surprised to say the least. I said "OMG you are kidding me". They all laughed at my reaction. Then they said we are going to the top hill to the bunkers to set up a camera to film it from there as well. I had just got a video camera from my Mom for Xmas so I followed them to get my own video of it. When we got to the bunkers we could see Spider well on top of the tower. He climbed up in the wee hours of the morning and no one saw him. The traffic on the bridge was heavy at this time with the morning commute. He jumped with at least 4 cameras running. One was mine. He opened his chute before he dropped below the traffic deck the cars on the bridge got a good view of him. When he hit the water he released his chute and let it sink in the water. He was then picked up buy my rental and I found out later was taken a little north and dropped on a near buy beach to make his escape up the hill. It was all fun up to that point. I hurried back down to the launch ramp at Fort Baker. Fort Baker was a Army Base at one time, but in 1996 it was a Coast Guard Base. The alarms at the base were screaming as I arrived back. I could see my jetski cruising in with only the guy who I showed how to operate it. The Coast Guard were all over him. Then the rest of the film crew in the van, who took longer that me to put there cameras away, showed up. Buy then the Police were flying in the parking lot. They arrested everyone and wanted to take me in to. I claimed I didn't know what they were up to. The guy who hired me also told them I was innocent. The police took the 3 cameras (one from the ski and the two they had set up at the bunkers) When they looked at the film they saw my surprised reaction from when they told me earlier what they were really up to. That saved me from arrest. In the van they found the production crews script after the Bridge jump Spider was going to jump the Transamercian Pyramid and one more location I can't remember (it might have been Coit Tower) They told me they were going to keep my ski as evidence. I just laughed and said "good they will owe me extra every day beyond the contract they signed." Seeing that reaction from me made them give it back right then. I did not tell them I filmed the jump myself. LOL I drove away with my camera. When I got to my shop I called Channel 2 and asked if they wanted it for the news. OMG my phone started ringing off the hook. There were quite a few news vans at my shop in no time. I made allot of cash that day. Besides the news channels Real TV and Hard Copy both paid me a nice some. The next day the police showed up for my tape. I turned it over willingly knowing I made a copy already. I may still have it in storage. Ill look hard for it, but it may have ended up with a ex-wife who stole many items from me when we parted. If I don't post it within a week I couldn't find it. Everyone had to go to court including Spider. It never went to trial plea bargains for all involved. They tried to get me for taking evidence but it didn't stick. I did no time just lost a little sweat. I suggest if you want to Jump the Golden Gate don't rite a script that was the down fall of everyone involved. The north tower is the best one to jump from. Marin County Jail is MUCH nicer than the Jail in S.F.
