Unless you're HALO, it doesn't help you a whole bunch beyond the will to fling yourself into the void.

Start skydiving... recreational skydiving on your weekends. Learn to fly a square. Then when you get back stateside, come see us at the bridge.

Hi hows it going, I was also military in Germany. I think we have a lot in common. I wanted to get into BASE since early 80,s when I first started jumping out of planes but things get in the way. Finally I am settled, and I am about to try my first Jump. The advice you have been given is spot on, but I am just going to throw in how I am going to approach it. I am not sure that I am after a BASE number and by that I mean I have thought long and hard about what excites me when it comes to doing a BASE jump, and for me cliffs have an appeal more than anything else at this particular time, I am not saying it wont change in the future. So what I have decided to do is a first jump course in Norway, this course doesn't train you to be a BASE jumper it provides the training to allow skydivers like me who are interested to fulfill there ambition of jumping a big wall, and it maybe the case I never jump a bridge building or antena and I maybe quite settled returning to Norway now and again to do more of the same. What I am saying is I can do one of the best Base jumps in the world and I don't feel obliged to prove anything, gain anything ,or step outside what I feel I am doing it for. As you have problebly read already you have to have respect for Base jumping and that starts within. keep jumping and talk to lots of Base jumpers listen to the good bits and more importantly the bad bits .you are in the military and you know that intelagence gathering is the key to a succesfull mission so you can start now but take your time don't rush.best of luck ......Chris.
