I first saw this on TandemBASE's Facebook page, but it also came up on one of my news sites: Top Ten Cities to Defy Death

One Idaho city ranked tops among death defying cities | KTVB.COM | KTVB.COM | Boise, Idaho news

First, I think anytime BASE is put out in a positive light to a wider audience, it's a good thing.

What I find interesting though is livability.com's business model. All of their "10 Best..." along with most of the "content" on the site is full of links and is just thinly veiled advertising. The "Top Ten" lists are specifically designed to be tiny little media bites, easy to post/repost, to drive traffic to their site and to the links provided. I don't see where there is any actual research or statistics to back up anything they say... It's similar to product placement in movies and TV shows except in this case they are inserting it into "journalism" media. It's stealth advertising.

I'm just saying... =;>
