Question Looking for opinions on Spine protectors.

I am looking for a spine protector I can use for BASE, speed flying and ski launching.

    I have seen TSG:

    Scott also makes one:

Then of coarse you have 661

I also found a POC one:

I kind of like the concept of the leg straps because in speed flying and ski launching, there is a greater chance of hitting your tail bone so I want the protector to stay low in that case.

Does anyone have any thoughts on a light weight, flexible protector that I can wear in many situations?

I went with the Dainese Impact armor. It has the removable wave back protector, which can be bought separate if you like. For coccyx protection I went with their MTB impact short. I use it for BASE, speedflying, ski launching, and skiing. It's modular so you can use what you need for the specific sport. It may be a little harder to get but your local downhill mtn bike shop should have it or a local motorcycle shop should be able to order it. The impact armor and short are on the summer multi-sport page and the back protector (if buying separate) is on the moto page of the Dainese site.

The back protector has aluminum honeycomb as the insert and it is what they sell for moto so it should be pretty damn tough.

the spine protector was designed for Motocross guys, when you crash laying on the ground and get run over it well protect your spine and other part of your body. skydiving, base, speed flying, when you fuck up you well land on your tailbone causing fracture or compression to you spine. the spine protector is nice after you hurt your self little bit easy on the opening and support. Spine protectors is like having a good looking wing suite helmet at leas you look good when hit the side of mountains

I bought a Dainese as well in 2005 on the way to Go Fast Games (literally, I had Adam take us to a store in Denver). Like Al said, none of these will give much protection from a compression fracture but history shows us that when shit goes wrong you can't imagine the weird shit that happens. If you have to PLF onto rocky terrain it's nice to have the shell of a ninja turtle. The product with the legstraps looks nice. I can tell you with mine, if you dont adjust properly it does ride up and then you have a hard plastic piece at the base of your neck.

I would take it seriously; but it's serious and ridiculous at the same time. -sl

if your going to get one get one with adjustable belt one like this Acerbis Koerta Pressure Suit by Atomic Moto, I do have 661, It has adjustable belt support my back nicely and it does not ride up.

This is what I have, but I fear there is not enough tailbone protection for speed flying. But for BASE, I love my core saver!!!!
