    sports questionnaire

    caroline.fraser@newcastle.ac.uk

    Dear sir/madam,

I am a psychology student in my final year at Newcastle University currently working on my dissertation. I have a brother that likes to throw himself down the Sabie River on nothing more than a little raft and engage in what I consider ‘crazy’ activities, this has lead me to become very interested in trying to understand why people choose the sports they do.
This has therefore has led me into conducting a study on sportsmen’s personality and trying to get an understanding of their motivations and their individual differences. I hope to gather a wide range of people in a variety of sports in order to give me a broad view on the subject.
I am hoping that you will be willing to take part in my study. Participation would mean completing a questionnaire(follow link below) All measures would be taken to keep any information confidential and anonymous.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Yours Faithfully,

    Caroline Fraser

Oh great....not another "are you an adrenaline junkie study". These are about as common (and just as lame) as "I'm shooting an EXTREME sports movie and I need participants....please help"

    Caroline,

My motivation is explained in Part 2. Every person's is different. It cannot be quantified or qualified in the general terms of a survey.

I know it makes inferential statistics a bitch, but it is what it is. Tell the board Chi-square doesn't jive with them BASE jumpers at least.

    Good luck.

Your survey is put together poorly, and is too long. I lost interest rather quickly as the web format sucks. It requires scrolling and is not easy on the eyes.

Furthermore, you should always put on the page how long a survey will take. If I knew I was at the end, or close I may have actually finished it as I lounge here on my laptop. Instead I quit.

Now instead of finishing your survey and trying to provide useful data, I think I am going to go to Fat Chicks in Party Hats

Why are you guys so full of shit against others who visit the forum who do not base jump? No wonder why people think base jumpers is so full of shit as they do!

Be a bit more respectful and maybe you will gain some respect to.

True. However, when I was in graduate school working on my Masters degree, I took some upper level marketing classes specifically dealing with marketing research and surveys that is why I am quite critical.

As the Dean of students could attest to, tact is not one of my refined traits, being a smart-ass on the other hand, is. Fortunately for me in my job, I don't need the tact.

I did try and take the survey though, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to provide the feedback I did.

It needs re-tooling, it seems she doesn't understand the market segment (i.e. base jumpers) she is targeting and the survey has a host of other problems including its layout, ambiguous questions, etc.

If she fixes it, I'd finish it. I have no problem helping people. I do however have a problem with people who haven't put it the required effort for the desired results.... And the survey strikes me as such.

    respectfully-

    .

    Exactly.
Fill it in or don't fill it in ...
If you do have something constructive to suggest about it...no need to sugar coat it , but likewise, no need to dip it in shit either.

I've seen a similiar type of questionnaire the ex-wife had me go take to see if I was addicted to herb.

It's a bunch of shit if you ask me.
