Opening Distance for Deployments

I have a Mojo 260' right now, and just started doing Roll overs, and TARD's.

1st off, I want to get some insight, and hopefully technical details (numbers), about successful opening altitudes for TARD's and Roll Overs for low jumps.

I am stuck with many 150' to 250' objects, and want to know if this would work constantly?

My lowest rollover was from 160'. It was with a vented canopy. I had enough time to turn 180. I have not repeated from that altitude or any lower, but it worked.

I am looking for something repeatable.

So would it be safe to say, a rollover from 250' is repeatable with a vented canopy?

and 300' would be repeatable on a NON-vented canopy?

I'm in the same boat as you Mick having only just started doing them.

Right now me and a friend have been using a bridge thats got a top and bottom deck. Top being 190-200 (this is open to vicious debate depending who you talk to

) and the bottom around 170'.

We seem to be getting pretty consistant openings from McConkeys. From the video it looks like i'm under canopy just a touch below the bottom deck and obviously getting full pressure a touch lower (vented.)

My buddy is using a Mojo and has been getting about the same performance. On the TARD he went from the low deck which was probably a wise decision as he had a solid 180 and that seemed to open really quite quick.

I feel pretty safe doing them from these altitudes from the experimenting i've been doing, i mean unless you fuck up and wrap yourself up.

Not sure, but my canopy was open pretty quick here:

But not fully inflated.... Looks like 3-4 seconds from exit, the where I was getting any forward drive under canopy at all.

Have no experiance on rollovers.

That really depends upon the condition of the canopy. I have seen un-vented canopied doing a roll over from 200 but it was LOW!

it's 100% survivable, unless you fuck something else up. unvented canopies have been tarted and rolled over from much lower altitudes.

200' safe and repeatable. Always assume that a no slider canopy needs 150' to open regardless the jump (err on the safe side). So it's a matter of how much canopy ride you need. 50' is a good minimum. Said that, the lowest I've McConkey was 240', at that altitude you can throw students off all day rolling over...but not off that object.

From 300' you can tard it over and Marry Poppins the shit out of it already.

Fuck the vents!

Mick, it looks like your getting lazy, did you not go out to the center of the bridge in that video?

Ill bet a kite under has you under a pressurized canopy in a little less altitude than a rollover, although you'd need a perfect wind for it. I only say this from intuition and have zero proof of this, anyone else buy it?

I have 1 rollover from a 150' S (over grass) and 1 rollover from a 186' S (over sand/water) with a vented Fox 285. I had around 5 seconds of canopy time from the 150' and about 7 or 8 for the 186'. (obviously I have very limited experience with rollovers, but I've seen a number of jumps and rollovers from both of these objects)

The 150' has been rolled-over quite a bit, though I have seen someone with a large vented Troll have a sub 2 second ride off it resulting in a bruised heel - and the launch looked fine, lines maintained tension, etc - pressurisation just seemed to take longer than normal.

The 186' gets rolled-over a lot.

The object im stuck wiht is a shimney. As said, 90m (295 ft). Going up suterday morning. Going to do a tard or tard-over depending on wind direktion.
Any last tips?

I am conservative, so I would say try a TARD first before trying a TARD-Over... You will have better heading on a TARD also.
