    Observations from Italy’s Terminal wall.

    Easter weekend.
    I arrived on Thursday night only to be informed by Nadia LZ that there was a fatality that morning. On Friday there was a landing on the steps1 hr before sunset, that resulted in Heli rescue. No injury, I timed the rescue inadvertently with my cam. 14 minutes from the LZ take off to LZ landing. Those Soccorso guys rock! One week appx before there was another Heli transport due to a jumper femuring in the LZ. 3 heli’s in less than a week. Soccorso started hangin out at the LZ ,along with a guy in a suit in a SUV, Appx 150 jumps were made whilst I was there most under the observation of the SUV guy. All of those jump without complications.
    End of Observations,
    Thoughts;
    I really don’t think that on an overall basis that this was more than the norm. But these guys are waiting for someone to take control. And someone will. Be it us or them. Be warned. I think better us.
    Take care and respect.

    it came to my knowledge, that till now we BASE jumpers had rescuing with helly for free, we were treated as climbers, but since yesterday there is some info around that we ll have to pay for helly rescues ... anyone any additional info on that question.

    The way it seems things are going, what has been proposed is that there will be a NOTAM for the area. One must register to be included in this NOTAM. Declaring upon registering that one is meeting basic guidelines set forth by some of the BASE community. If one does not register, or meet the criteria, then that one or one's family must pay for all incurred costs for rescue or recovery. Time to speak up and do something or they will do it for us.

    The Italian locals had a meeting on Monday and are looking at the options to manage the site differently in the future (i.e. the NOTAM).

    If you are planning a trip to the ITW in the near future please follow the rules. Anymore problems could put the site at risk..

    Does the route to the top have anything to do with it? eg, the short hike vs the long hike? Or are rescues and underqualified (per recommendations on the pillar) jumpers the bigger concern?
