    Kjerag Incidents

I am here scraping the dead off the cliff and instructing students to jump off. Three days ago a woman with 5 BASE good jumps from the Perrine bridge died from impacting after never deploying her pilot chute.

Today a first time jumper exited unstable and had a 180 degree offheading striking the cliff. He is OK and the resuce teams are currently removing him from the wall.

Ignore the media reports as you should if you have any intelligence. Forget about posting with your uninformed gibberish.

What exactly does this involve, "scraping people off". Are you a part of a rescue team on site, what do you do when an accident occurs? What is your background for dealing with dead and dying people. Do you have previous training in this sort of "job"?
Usually when it's not our own personal friends, this is left to professionals. Is it different in Kjerag?

Obviously Jim J is a true hero...

Local climbers are doing the dirty work in the wall, voluntarely! For the last 7 years.

This morning they rescued a 49 year old yoga professor from Spain. He had been sitting there for 9 hrs.

Now there's dedication for you. Land on the side of a cliff for some peace and solitude, I just hope he doesn't start a trend of BASE jumping yoga practitioners.

Rumour has it that because Lori Barr ended up so low (about 250m above landing area) various BASE jumpers could climb up to her and take a "good look". However, they couldn't bring her down, and therefore had to wait for professional rescuers. "Various BASE jumpers" evidently encompassing a little group of on-site jumpers/instructors who, if I'm correct, have started a "BASE rescue team" of some sort(?) to assist the climbers. I don't know if this is the case, but rumour also has it that these people have no training or background otherwise in dealing with this sort of thing.

I don't know if any of this is true, but it sounds absolutely horrible if it is. The thought of having nosy bystanders milling around the body of your loved one or yourself under the pretext of being a "BASE rescue team" just doesn't sound very appealing.

Obviously if you BASE jump you could end up dead in very public places. That's not the issue as much as people posing as "experts" when in fact perhaps less experts than any of us.

This is NOT to criticize individuals, rather the concept if this in fact is happening at Kjerag.

    RE: Kjerag Incidents

It`s about time people stopp using Kjerag as a beginners cliff. All serius injuries in Norway for the past years have been foreigners without enough experiense with theese kinda walls. These innsidents make the Norwegian people sceptikal towards base-jumping. The media is having a ball.
Make some chopper jumps from 4000ft. and practise stable exits and going in to a track with stability, then you can jump real montains. Or jump some of our 1500ft mountains with great overhang.

    RE: Kjerag Incidents

The thought behind the "BASE rescue team" is to help fellow BASE jumpers stuck and/or hurt when jumping Kjerag. Jumpers on location ("BASE rescue team") are usually able to get to the jumper faster than the professional rescue team.

This is how it should be and how it MUST be. When we have an accident we cannot just sit and wait for the professional rescue team, we need to act regardless of we suspect the jumper is dead.

There is a "tradition" of helping the rescueteams in Norway, it has been and it will continue. I don't know how you would like to be treaten after at bad landing or worse, left alone for a couple of hours, because your friends are afraid to get there hands "dirty" while waiting for the rescueteam to reach you, or see your friends working there buts off to reach you the fastest way they know...

    Farck jojo

    To jojo,
Your concern is about nosy bystanders?
I´ve never told anyone to farck off in this forum before. I now tell you jojo to farck off!
Climbing, retrieval equipment was purchased in 1997 by the NBF to benefit the volunteer SAR there.
If you had a farcking clue you would know that 250m msl under #7 sucks big time. The BASE rescue team has been in effect since before the last millenium you geek. You wish to flame the jumpers/full time instructors offering help in recovering the body. Farck you.
What background does one need in your farcking opinion to recover a dead body?
The thing that sucks about this is that JJ, Rob or any of the other foreign volunteers have NO free access to pschyological help as the other nationals. What about the volunteers you geek? They are still living, not eating until they are starving because one´s food looks like exploding body parts. Farck you! What the farck about us? The victim is dead, The rescuers pick up up the parts, get debriefed by experts in PTSD, and us eyewitnessing volunteers are left trying to figure out if our mashed potatoes represent exploding skull or if it was just the jumpsuit color as we are struggling to take another bite, the first in 3 days. Farck you!
Maybe since 4 impacts there at #7, a video of the exploding body complete with the Skull vs Granite sound would be a really cool addition to the FJC.
There are NO Volunteers posing as experts at Kjerag, They are all top of the line professionals without recourse to psychological help if they are foriegners. And they and I do it it anyway…Your concept really pisses me off as it is so shortsitghted.
We as Volunteers of keeper of the site and NBF,BR,CR,Vertigo, etc (whether actively or passively) have decreased the death ratio from the 80´s by an astounding 3200% but by your farcking concept if one soaks one cork one is a cork soaker for life regardless if one has saved hundreds of corks from being soaked. Farck your concept!
    Take care,
    space

Very enlightening post space. Makes one realize that the victims and their families and not the only ones who suffer dealing with this type of tradegy. I have the upmost respect for all the volunteers who are involved in such rescue and recovery operations. Great post.
