Norwegian record set on July 29th, 2001

It is known that psychokiwi will be proud to have a new member that is as hard as they come. This morning, in true Australian style and Mince Division fashion, Christopher McDougal - aka Douggs, out-tracked the talus (without a wingsuit) at Smellvagen to land in the water. The jump lasted for a record setting time of 25.9 seconds before the pull was initiated. The previous record, reported by Stein Edvardson was a pitiful 16 seconds. Douggs (with the weight of his fetus), was unstoppable on his way to the water. Koalas where fearing for there safety, and the tigers were falling off their ferris wheels as Douggs screamed by over the tree tops on his way to the water. Amazingly, he was able to deploy his canopy and manage a 10 second canopy ride.

Douggs recorded the entire jump, but unfortunately (in true Australian style) his camera was zoomed in all the way. But, the jump was recorded from several angles as proof that this couragous event actually took place. So, now the invitation is out, try, just try, to beat Douggs' record setting jump. It is not doubted that some carnage will result from this invitation as we know that BASE jumpers always try to out do eachother - expecially the Aussies...

    Wow!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-29-01 AT 11:08 AM (PST)[p]Douggs, you rock!

I'm adding this to my personal list of the top ten BASE achievments of all time (I think that brings it up to five).

    Holy Shite, that's Freakin' Amazing!

P.S. Any word on whether he used the "death rig" to set the record?

Douggs you rock dude ! I liked your practice jump where the landing area was totally safe "by Australian standards" ... the most funny video that I brought back from Lyse. The MD rocks and it was really fun to meet and hang with you guys. Thanks for showing us what can be done so tourist jumpers like me can glide in and read the maps.

Yuri, I did Smellveggen with a Skyflyer and it really rocked. I almost reached the ridge on the right before pulling. After jumping the Skyflyer I put the Classic away for good, it just doesn't compete. Flying over trees and talus is way more fun than flying out over water in the open void, like from 5,6 & 7. I'll see if I can make it to Roms or Eikesdalen while Team Bautasten are there.

Matt, you and your MD crew rocks! For a soft (unt like my self your attitude and commitment to take it to the streets are impressive ;) Team Bautasten (Micke, Martin, PerFlare) like to say. Well done and keep it up! We looking forward to see you all next year :)

And Dougs, dude that death track from smellweggen is the core of being a Sith Master and shows that when you choose the path of the dark side of the force it will forever change your destiny.

Have fun and be safe .. and in that order!
