Hi Everyone,
I want to let you all know I had a very positive one-on-one meeting this morning with Grand County Sheriff Jim Nyland.
Being an Officer of Grand County Search and Rescue (GCSAR) and a local BASE jumper, I was able to have a polite, constructive and honest discussion of our concerns. He means well, however, he has made some very misleading comments about BASE jumpers recently to the news media. These comments have unecessarily damaged BASE jumping's public image here in Utah and they will not be tolerated.
Sorry, but I have to run now. Sometime after Sunday I will write a much more detailed note of our meeting, including the FACTS regarding this year's BASE-related costs to GCSAR.
I will say that he no longer plans to pursue any restrictions or regulations. :)
