    Another fatality in BASE

On Friday?, Christophe, an French BASE jumper, died whilst jumping in Southern France. He was jumping a new exit point which had only recently been opened. He knew it was a difficult jump which required the jumpers to track the talus. He was doing a two way, filming a friend. Apparently his friend was ok but Christophe did not manage to track the talus and impacted. This is all the information I have but there has been a posting on the French BASE board.

I had the pleasure of his company in Le Verdon and Le Vercors this summer and his enthusiasm for the sport was infectious!! He was always smiling, laughing and offering help and advice. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him I am sure. I made a new friend and lost him far too quickly. A very black day indeed.

    Goodbye my Friend

Chris died on the 15th but we have not so much information as to how but he was jumping a new exit point on a cliff he had jumped before.(not the one with the ledges that you are thinking of Heather.)it was 450m slightly underhung but the problem occurred after opening as his friend said he heard a terrible sound on the wall after opening and looked back to see him with his canopy out but not pressurised.he was stuck 80m up and wasnt answering his friend andwas dead when the chopper got there.

Heather couldn't be more accurate in saying his enthusiasm was infectious.we all spent a fantastic time together this summer.Chris loved to jump and loved new exit points and loved Nature.
I met Chris in March and jumped together then and his kindness and smiles and madness made me come back for the summer.

Chris never treated me like a girlie, always had some new fantastic idea for a jump and we were always smiling and laughing on the exit point. He was My guide for Marseiile and i kicked his arse in Backgammon..

the hardest hike i had to do was on Friday going up to do a jump to say goodbye to my friend.

my heart is so heavy and my thoughts go out to his girlfriend , his friends and family.

Jumping in France wont be the same for me now.

    Fly forever Chris.

    peace love and mungbeans...7....xxxxxxx

    RE: Another fatality in BASE

Once more I am shocked at reading the BASE board and hearing of another fatality in our small community. Chris was a superb guy and his enthusiasm for the sport was an inspiration to me. He was slightly crazy and a real pleasure to be around. I just got an e-mail from him and was arranging to meet up with him again in France next week. The world is a poorer place without him. My condolences to his family and friends........
