I second the nomination for Slim.
Slim is a modern day hero to many. His accomplishments are many. I never forget the year in which he made 350 or so jumps training for the IPBC competitions -- and it showed. Nobody could even come close. And his representation for the sport was the most presentable I have ever seen.
Slim's aerials are among the most artistic that I've ever seen. For those of you who do not know, it is downright difficult for a person of long build to perform aerials in an artistic fashion -- it's a simple matter of physics. For those who have not had the pleasure of jumping with him, just grab a copy of Beyond Extreme and see for yourself.
He's probably gone at it faster and farther than any other jumper in the world.
His spirit and attitude are top-notch. He's a riot to be around and a total blast to jump with. Just read any of the dozens of short stories he's written and you see exactly what I mean.
Now none of this is take anything away from Fast Al and many others that are also deserving of a nomination -- there's dozens of deserving people out there. It's just that Slim IS a modern day BASE hero and it is of my opinion that he is most deserving.

Tom really helps people out on the board and he's a nice guy, but I don't think he's in the league of BASE jumper of the Year.
Maybe "Most Busted up in a Year" or even better yet "Gets Seriously Busted up Once a Year" would be more in line.
:o
Two differn't Guys
How about the Mince Division since they are so positive and helpful and constructive. Especially on this board.
"Mince Division is now in the Running.
I got into jumping after being inspired by a few special individuals whose videos and movies made it to the public. In reality, I'm not in this sport for the attention. I'll do what I can to help nonlocals, however.
You know, how can anybody nominate anybody when the community is so well separated and most of the activities are clandestine? At least here in the US, as well as many parts of the world. I hope we never have a BASE jumper of the year. I think we all know who the heroes are, some well known, some unknown, who continue to inspire us. Just a thought.
I cast my Vote for Randy Harrison to be "BASE Jumper of the year 2002"
Andy Calistrat, the greatest of all time. Except me, of course.;-)
The "BASE Jumper of the year 2002" candidate deadline is 8-1-2002.
The Voting ends 9-1-2002
