    Pin Tension

Just got a Gargoyle and did one jump on it the day I got it. I was curious if there had been any container lock instances with any pin base containers. Is there anything particular to look out for? My bottom pin seems to be tighter than the top, but still comes out well before the container could lift off the ground. The top pin seems relatively loose. Is that normal?

Why should the closing loops only be 3/4" max?

I have never heard of a documented case of a pin lock on a BASE rig. All the reported problems that I am aware of have been of the opposite (pins too loose, premature deployment, inadequate protection) nature.

That's about how my Gargoyle is too, and it seems to be working fine.

One word of warning-- be sure that you close the pin cover flap entirely for every jump. With the crossover design, it is not necessary to leave it open at any altitude (I've kept mine closed to 260'--no lower because I've got a Troll in it, and I worry about the canopy, not the container, below that), and if yours is built like mine the pin extends over the side flap if the pin cover is open, creating a possible snag hazard.

Presumably because longer closing loops will reduce the lateral tension and lead to possible premature container opening. That's just my theory though. I think that Morpheus is on the road right now, but hopefully someone will mention this thread to them and they will find a chance to post a response.

The Gargoyle is a very nice container. Aside from a couple of minor complaints, I've been very happy with mine. Have fun with it.

Tom, could you please post your thoughts about the troll(why no go under 260???......) and the gargoyle?
