    boat rides at perrine

I have a rather touchy question to post.
since Burt and Don have always done such a good job of transportation and sometimes rescue, do we owe them any sense of loyalty for the up comming season. There's a new game in town with a lot better deals.JUMP THE SNAKE is offering great packages on boat rides and they include shuttle to the top.For $200.00, you can get 50 jumps with JUMP THE SNAKE, a savings of $150.00 compared to Burt and Dons price of $350.00 and that does'nt include a shuttle to the top. I know at first this sounds like a no brainer and I understand economics (supply in demand).
My question - Am I living with my head in the sand for feeling loyal to Burt and Don since the've always been there for us?
$150.00 is a lot of money but friendship is also worth a lot.
Thanks in advance for any input.
please keep the flaming to a minimum.:P

Dude, Burt & Don = Good Karma!
Wouldn't feel the same without them to pick me up!

"And for a further savings of $75, JUMP THE SNAKE will club this baby harp seal!"

friendship IS worth alot, but IF I can save $150 and get comparable or better service from the "new game", I think I'd go that route...also, think of it this way: you found "object a" for the price of $100 from a complete stranger...this object is identical to "object b" that a friend of yours wants to sell you for $150...which would YOU buy? don't get me wrong...I'm a firm believer in helping friends out (financially or otherwise) whenever possible, but friendship and "business" do not always mix...I'm sure that more than one person out there has found this out the hard way...:-( we're also talkin' about a substantial amount of cash here...if it were $50 instead of $150, I would probably play it loyal...

Economics is economics, I agree, and maybe these are really cool folks and all, but I will still try to be loyal to Burt n' Don, for the simple fact that I KNOW those guys are cool, and have REALLY supported us for so long. I have heard many tales of Don and Burt giving rides to the top, and back and forth to hotels, etc, for FREE! Not to mention the support within the Twin Falls community.

One thing I really object to is what appears to be an ad for JUMP THE SNAKE masquerading as a post on this forum. C'mon guys, it seems pretty transparent.

    Pricing?

Wouldn't it be $250 for 50 jumps with the Jump the Snake folks? (5 x 10 jump punch card @ $50 per card). I'm a bit confused on their pricing, as it is different on different parts of their web site.

Does anyone know what Don and Bert are charging this year? Don is a consummate businessman, and will undoubtedly have some response to his new competition.

I've NEVER been riding with Don and Bert and had trouble finding a way to the top. Any time that we couldn't sort it out, they jumped in and drove us up.

And, yeah, as long as Bert is driving the boat, I'll be riding with him. I figure I can pay an extra buck or two per jump in thanks for him pulling my broken body out of the river a while back.

I have heard from a good source that Don and Burt will be chargeing less this year, and I am sure it will be competitive with Brand X. Even if they didn't charge less I would still ride with them. They come out for small groups [which they may have to charge a bit more for - I don't know, but to me that would be understandable]. They are almost all ways available during the season, and sometimes when it isn't the season!

Also, they have always been more than willing to give a ride up to the top or shuttle my car. No Problems there.

They should be supported for their past service and for their current service, including their continued presence at community meetings and political meetings that occur. We are under scrutiny and the jumping at Perrine can be halted if it isn't done with some diplomacy. If we trash this place and cause problems, they will close it just like El Cap was closed.

And, last, but not least, the number one reason to ride with Don and Burt ---- THATS WHERE YOU WILL FIND AIELLO!!!!!

See ya at the top, or the bottom or the park or the hotel soon. I plan to make as many jumps as I can off this place before it gets shut down.

Thanks for the input guys. I was suprised that most people felt the way I do. It's nice to know that people aren't always concerned about the almighty dollar.
just so you don't think that my post was a add by JUMP THE SNAKE, I am the guy that posted it.

    RE: boat rides at perrine

last memorial day bert and don said they would give a reasonable discount on groups of jumpers.

    stats:

    65 jumper
    4 days
    5 jumps avarage per day
    $7.00 per jump
$2.00 per ride to the top that was not available

total: $9,100.00 for 4 days of work

I spent more on the boat than I did on my hotel room at the ameritel last memorial day.

    What constitutes a group anyway?
I like bert and don, but they are making out like kings on the big events and not sharing that with anyone.
They are having the large groups pay for the 2-3 jumpers that come out and make 1 jump each, so they only make $21.00 total for bringing their boat out from home.
Why don't they charge $15.00/jump for small groups when there is not an event like memorial day, labor day, snake river games etc... and have a minimum amount of jumps that have to pay for their expenses.
Then when the events come, offer a reasonable group rate, like the $5.00 including a van ride to the top.
Now with competition, they are forced to become intelligent businessmen, not manopolist.

Besides, when is the last time they attended any meeting for the base jumping here? the community opened the visitors center for bridge day for us. it seems the community has bought into us. So thanks for help a few years ago, now act like a real business.

You are just going to stay with them because it gives you easy access to the 14 yr old girls. You try and lure them in with Britney stickers and then show them how "cool" you are.

    RE: boat rides at perrine

I CAN NOT BELIEVE PEOPLE ARE BITCHING ABOUT SOME GUYS MAKING MONEY BY HELPING US AVOID THAT GAWDAMN POISON OAK INFESTED HIKE OUT AND BEING THERE TO FISH US OUT OF THE WATER IF WE GET FU(KED UP SOMEHOW AND IN GENERAL HANGING OUT TILL WE ARE DONE AND ALWAYS HAVING A GOOD WORD FOR US AND TO US.

WHO ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO SHARE IT WITH?

"Besides, when is the last time they attended any meeting for the base jumping here? the community opened the visitors center for bridge day for us. it seems the community has bought into us."

I DON'T KNOW WHEN THEY LAST ACTUALLY WENT TO A MEETING, BUT THE ATTITUDE THAT THE COMMUNITY IS ALL BEHIND US Is WRONG. I ATE AT SIZZLER LATE ONE NIGHT, JUST A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD FROM THE BRIDGE LAST SUMMER, AND THE KIDS WORKING THERE HAD NO IDEA THAT B.A.S.E. WAS HAPPENING DOWN THE ROAD. I THINK IT IS A MISCONCEPTION THAT THE COMMUNITY IS TOTALLY INTO AND BEHIND US. I WOULD BET A LOT OF THEM HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE F IS GOING ON AND WILL ONLY GET TO KNOW US WHEN SOME DIPSH*T CRASHES THEIR CAR WHEN THEY SEE ONE OF US ATOP THE RAIL, OR SOMEONE GOES IN, OR WE TRASH THE LANDING AREA, OR SOMEONE GETS NAKED AT THE WRONG TIME, OR SOME DIPSH*T ON OUR SIDE IS SEEN GUZZLING BEER IN THE BACK OF A PICKUP TRUCK ON THE WAY TO THE TOP.

"So thanks for help a few years ago, now act like a real business"

Ok the all caps was annoying even me, sorry about that. First you bitch because they are making money like a business, now you tell them to act like a real business. Hmmmm. That last sentence seems to amount to, "Thanks for everything, but f off"

Dude, it is attitudes like this that are going to get this bridge shut down faster than you can smash a baby harp seal head with an AC Delco pickup truck battery.

We have an awesome legal site here, and we shouldn't take it for granted. No, I am not saying that the entrance of JUMP THE SNAKE onto the scene is the bringer of doom to the Perrine, but the attitude that the community out there is all behind us 100% could be. We need to go there, jump and party our asses off, but be respectful to the community and their standards. I do not think that an influx of BASE jumpers on a few three day weekends that benefits primarily Burt and Don, Chillis and Outback, possibly Starbucks, and a hotel or two, is going to be seen as some massive influx of cash to the community that will allow us to act like jerkoffs.

I'll shut the f up now.

    RE: boat rides at perrine

A real business (even theirs), gives discounts to groups. Take a group of 10 people down to see the waterfall, and you will get a group rate.
If you go by yourself, or with 2-3 people only, you don't get the group rate.
DURING MEMORIAL DAY, THERE WHERE 65 JUMPER LAST YEAR AND ZERO GROUP RATE. NO RIDE TO THE TOP ETC...

Each boat ride carries 12 jumpers ($84.00 a load) and it less than 1 gallon of gas to make that trip. So there is a profit of $83.00 per load.
Now I am all for a business making money. But when Don came on this forum last year and said "if we have a large group, we will give a discount", yet when it came time to pay last year, my pocket book got #####.

What the ##### is the problem with $5.00 per load including a van ride to the top, during times when a group is there like memorial day?

I am not saying I don't want to support don and bert, I just don't want to get ##### by them again. And I have seen so many people have difficulty finding a way back to the top of the bridge.

as far as local support, on bridge day, the vistors center oppened especially for us. there was a front page news article on the jumping activities. Many of the people know all about the jumping now. I have eaten at many of the eateries there and stayed at most of the hotels, and everyone knows.

if you are not happy with the existing cost / service ratio, by all means consider an alternative.
last year i hiked out on 85% of my jumps.
