Buggy-rider plunges 200ft to his death Apr 2 2002

A man died yesterday after he rode a three-wheeled buggy off a cliff.
He had been riding the adapted sleigh on the hill above the cliff in Lord Stones Country Park, Carlton Bank, near Stokesley, in Cleveland, late yesterday afternoon, when he went further than he had intended and fell 200ft into a stream below.
Cleveland Search and Rescue teams went to the scene and the man, who has not been named by police, was winched up to a helicopter from RAF Kinross and taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital. He died later from his injuries.
Police trying to piece together what happened believe the buggy may have been made from a sleigh and adapted for racing. Sgt Simon Wilson of North Yorkshire Police said: "This was a tragic accident that went wrong.
"He appears to have been someone taking advantage of the bank holiday weekend to have some fun outdoors. Tragically, despite prompt action from the emergency services, a man has died.
"Once again we would take this opportunity to warn people about the dangers of cliffs - people should stay a safe distance from long drops."
