    skydiving w/ base rigs

I have a 2-pin base container that I would like to skydive a few times with my new wingsuit. Obviously many of us have jumped our base canopies in skydiving containers, but what about skydiving with a complete single-parachute base rig? I'm interested in finding a very small, very low-profile (basically useless) chest-mounted round reserve to wear on such a jump.

I have not been able to find any modern chest mount reserve containers for sale. I know where I could get a big army T10 chest container, but that would defeat the purpose. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

    RE: skydiving w/ base rigs

    Hi Mike:

Although I did it mostly for entertainment value, I have taken a BASE rig out of an aircraft three times now. Our DZ is lucky enough to have an ultralight school on the same airport. Plenty of people have gone over and paid $40 for an ultralight jump (the ultralight people just treat it as a regular tourist flight). And, of course, the ultralight people know zero about parachutes, so they can't tell a BASE rig from a skydiving rig. The great thing about this setup was that I got lots of extra freefall, since I was able to pull around 300' with my BASE gear.

As far as a belly mount reserve, try contacting Morpheous (www.baserig.com). I know they have pictures of "BASE rig plus bellymount" jumps on their web page, so I'm sure they've done some research on it.

doesnt matter if you put a reserve on it or not. The FAA will still consider it illegal. The harness must be TSO'ed

    TSO

I know that one of the Perigee series got the German TSO equivalent a few years back. I'm not sure if that means a German could use one with a bellymount in the States (under the "gear from home" exception).

Anyone know if any of the manufacturers have gotten U.S. TSO's for their harness/container systems?

    RE: TSO

    Highly unlikely...

Although any base rig would easily pass the test, the fees are tremendous. Something on the order of $20,000 for a manufacturer to get a TSO, I think. And then I think you need continuous faa approval of your manufacturing and quality control practices. Not exactly cost-effective.

This guy is big-time old school. He should have the gear you are looking for.

My first BASE container was a Hummitt :7 and the guy who sold it to me said he was told by the manufacturer that the harness was TSO'd, of course I could never get hagendass to call me back. BIG SURPRISE:*
