    Site Naming...

Again, I must post something to tell everyone NOT to name sites here. Not just for the fact that the authorities check this site daily, but also to keep these sites from being burned by less tremendously individuals. Maybe even by a NON-jumper who decides to go there, jump with skydiving gear, and dies. Then making front page news, we all suffer tremendously!

If you have an object, post a request to talk to locals in that area and I am sure they will respond....but they will not blast it to the whole world!

Wow, you make it sound like Mick would shrivel up and die if someone directs a little inane BS his way. I'm sure he can handle it.

    RE: Site Naming...

I have been BASE-jumping since 1993. I have been skydiving, and following BASE-jumping since 1991. In that time, I can show documented cases (too many!) of sites being burned by jumpers just talking about a site openly, both in this forum, and just at a skydiving boogie.

I have also seen a few accounts of skydivers and non-skydivers (not BASE-Jumpers at all), who have heard of a site near them. They think it sounds really cool. They buy a skydiving rig on E-Bay. They go there. They "Go In!".

I actually live near an antenna here in Tucson that a skydiver went for his first and last BASE-Jump:
    Sabre 150
    Bungee PC
    Bag
    Standard Skydiving Rig

He actually got the container pin pulled when he impacted the ground.
This was stemmed from a discussion on a REAL base-jumper actually going there and jumping that tower.

Needless to say, nothing good came of it!

Do you get what I mean?

    RE: Site Naming...

I am pretty sure there is no such object in existence. In fact, I am very sure as I dreamed the whole thing up.
I mean c'mon, a 700 foot hobbit statue in Washington?
    SEVEN HUNDRED FEET?
I thought it was pretty obviously a joke, but I do apologize if the humor was lost on anyone.

I do know about an undiscovered 1000 foot high bridge in Nevada with a landing area full of prepacked BASE rigs, but I won't say where it is. It's all mine.

    Is there a bulge???
    ha ha...
I have to admit, you had me for a second. I did a little research and there are a lot statues modled around that little dude but they are all about 6 inches tall.

Now I find out my ticket to Tacoma is non-refundable! Damn!
I did think 700 feet was a bit high for a hobbit..
Maybe I still go visit the old couple that own the land. I'll remember not to show up between 12 and 2:30.

Hey site naming guy/gal, for what it's worth, I thought your post was pretty funny. I bet you are really cool....Do you think you could hook me up on the Nevada span??

    RE: Site Naming...

Sorry, can't help you on the span, because I just forgot where exactly it is. Besides, the rigs (I'm talking hundreds, BTW) are all pretty UV degraded and covered in desert tortoise urine anyway, and it's really not too safe anymore. I can hook you up with a legal 460 ft span in Idaho tho.

    RE: Site Naming...

I'm pretty sure most of this reasoning (i.e. preventing deaths of skydivers--applies to legal sites, too, and triply to that brige in Idaho, as they've all heard of it and want to go there).

    RE: Site Naming...

Normally, I wouldnt have imagined skydivers being this stupid, but I was asked at the perrine once by a little group of onlookers, "So how high is this, its like a thousand feet, right?" uh-huh.
