I'm not a lawyer (thank god) but I think the problem with charging for a "lift" ticket is that you are assuming liability for the tower. just call them "donations"......

Absolutely.
I can't chance getting busted (even though I do jump illegally from time to time).
I am more than glad to pay without having to post lookouts.
Please proceed to get it set up and tell us where to mail name, address etc. and experience to you.

if you opened a base d.z. not only would i show up frequently, i'd also buy you dinner everytime just for your trouble. i'm getting ready to fly from south carolina to twinn falls idaho just to jump a legal 500" bridge, i'm sure you will have a long line at your place. we have toyed with the idea too, and some suggest that you should form a club and in order to jump, you must be a member. that way if you tried to sue the club, you will be suing yourself. sounds like a plan to me. exactly what south central state are you thinking about?
keep the dream, we'll be waiting with packed rigs.

Kelly and I visited a location recently with existing anchor points and tower base in the middle of nowhere (aka nothing but fields). The only barriers here are raising enough money to transport the tower to this location and the all too familiar legal dangers.
Hmmmm...legal 950' antenna jump...I'd be willing to pay $20 AT LEAST, and I'd be there quite often. Let me know when you get it rolling!!
Do you have any idea of the costs of erecting such a structure?
8 bucks sounds like a good deal.
I look forward to mounting your huge erection sometime soon.
Yeah baby
LMFAO nice!
I'd pay... go for it. freestander or no? put HDPE sheet on the side of the thing for decreased snag potential. sponge rubber foam around the base.. 20 feet deep/100 foot radius. high-capacity pneumatic lift. and an airstrip.. need an airstrip to do 'check rides' and also maybe a balloon.. a playground.. for adults. I love it.

I have researched this a few years ago as well. to quote friend who builds antennas in Texas "vertical real estate is a lucrative business". His cost estimate is usually $10,000 US per 100 vertical feet all inclusive. I would vote to put it near Twin Falls ! Variety is the spice of life so they say.....moo who haa haa haa
Now as far as the legal stuff (which is a huge embarrassment in the US), I'd risk it with a pass to enter the property and a waiver and nobody has legal authorization to access the A, so you are tresspassing and the owner can decide when to charge the crime if need be. Get it?
First, this *will* happen someday. It's a BASE dream as old as the first time Carl Boenish sat around a Canyon De Chelly campfire wondering, "you guys think there's any Indians around here?"
Mike Allen, before he died, gave me copies of a magazine called "Radio Engineer" and in the back, buried in the classifieds and circled in red (he was excited), is tower after tower. Some are for sale, some are for lease, and some you could have for free if you just came and took the darn thing away.
Sure, 750-feet sounds great, we can charge five bucks, "just leave it in the coffee can by the bottom of the ladder," and we can put it right in the back yard and have everyone over for jumps and man think of the girls we'll get and . . . then . . .you start to research things a bit and find it ain't gonna be, Ritchie, Todd, Matt, Lane, and me throwing it up on a Saturday over a few beers.
"Well, if it that's difficult, and we have to hire some guys anyway, we might as well get a bigger one."
"With an elevator."
"A 2000-footer."
And there the dream comes crashing down as towers like speeding tickets cost more the faster you want to go. Much more. No one back then would invest the one million it would take. Not with our idea of coffee can accounting anyway. Today, it's a different story.
I feel it. Yes, someday very soon some smart cookie is going to find the 5 million (it would take today) and plug a 2000 footer into the Las Vegas Strip and that person is going to get very, very rich.
Can't you feel it?

Build it and they will come. Nice troll though. the lights alone for 1000 fter are about 30,000 dollars. Leaving off all the broadcast and power equipment, wiring and the like, your antenna without lights is about 235,000. And dont forget about Federal licensing for erecting a structure over 500 ft, building permits, (per specs), zoning, etc.....
Kelly builds 2000' towers and he's on the inside with a lot of support from his company. They are scraping the tower and are willing to cut him a special deal because of his inside connections with the company. The base of the site is already built. 950' is what we have for a tower and for a base. No one has yet been in such a favorable position to build a tower for base jumping purposes. The lower altitudes will be given to investors to rent to cellular phone companies. No joke.
This sounds like a perfect situation to get a real BASE dz, let's just hope it works out. So, Nick, can you tell us what state we are talking about here? Do you know what is holding this project from going through, if anything?
I would be there often to jump from your tower, I think 8 bucks sounds about right. That is for a 'vader, right? I hate climbing those things so much, I don't think I would make the trip to climb, but I'm sure some would.
Right on guys, this is the spirit that makes this sport so damn exciting, I hope this tower gets built!!
