    arizona bounce part II

wanna hear what is a BAD idea for configuring your gear?

i was told that the recent bounced dude had configured his gear such that his steering lines did not pass through the riser keeper rings or the rear slider gromments.
This is DEFINITELY NOT the hot setup when jumping with a slider.

either take the slider off and use the "line-mod", or leave a slider on and ensure that you pass your steering lines through the keeper rings and the grommets.

if you don't, you dramatically increase your chances of having an improperly staged deployment.
such an event can kill you.

    stay safe,

<steering lines did not pass through the riser keeper rings or the rear slider gromments.>

it was only the slider grommets that the steering lines did not pass through.

    "only"???
Its "only" the brake lines that help the slider come down quickly.....thats if they are through the slider grommets...

What kind of jump was it?
slider down or slider up jump?

    RE: arizona bounce part II

Apart from pushing the slider down quicker, there is also a greater chance that a line knot or entaglement below the slider could trap the slider up. The jumper would then streamer in, or get a partial non-symmetrical deployment and spiral in. The chance of a line over increases too. That is almost impossible to clear safely, especially during low deployments.

If you had your lines through the slider grommets but not the keeper ring you could have the following problems:
    - should your toggles be released, they may fly up and tangle around your lines, thereby decreasing your flaring ability (both on toggles and risers) and general canopy control.
    - if they pop out at line stretch, they may trap the slider up the lines, thereby resulting in a streamer again.

    Good Luck

    Only the slider....hmmmmmmmmm
So basically with planform (flat) geometry, this means that 25% of the rear of the canopy is without slider, Wouldnīt that lead to a quadratic equation in aerodynamical opening forces and surges?
Why is Kleggo telling us the real story? Is he giving out secondhand info so more donīt die as the other firsthanders wouldnīt?
Whatever, But please answer these questions via email or on the board.
    Was this set up intentional?
If not, how was he packing that allowed him not to notice this mis rigging? Was it his second jump that day with the same configuration? Did he transition his pack job from no/off to up... What were the circumstances? How can we prevent this from happening to us?
Please answer me, You will remain anon when you wish, But donīt let such a dynamic jumper as Schlefy die for nothing. Help us learn from him.

    thanks in advance
