    Portland

Portland ranked as the #1 city in USA to live in by Money Magazine! I'm sure this was partly based on the myriad of BASE sites, and more completely based on the fact that it's the home of the IPBC 2000 champion (in addition to some significantly inferior Aussies). Lastly, I'm sure the great weather was a consideration. ;~)

I seriously doubt that because it is (or was) the home the IPBC champion had anything to do with the ranking of Portland as the #1 city in the US in which to reside. Furthermore, I believe Portland's ranking to be directly attributed to the weather and the copious amount of BASE sites. :@

    RE: Portland

If you think it's because of the weather and the BASE sites you've obviously not spent much time in Portland in the winter. It's ranked the city with the 2nd highest rate of suicides in the nation. It's interesting though, most suicides happen on sunny days. I guess they wake up on a sunny day and Portland still sucks, so they off themselves.

The IPBC Champion is the medical examiner for Oregon, so if he offed himself, there'd be no one to do the autopsy. That's why he can live there.

Due to the copious number of BASE objects, a copious number of BASE jumps are done in Portland.
Statistics dictate that the higher number of BASE jumps done, the higher number of BASE fatalities there will be.
In the interest of site preservation, rigs are always removed from the victims (without the Medical Examiner's knowledge of course) - thus the general public perception of a high suicide rate. }>

    RE: Portland

Ok, no more bloody IPBC champion stuff.....

Occasionally in life one is fortunate/granted the opportunity to express a thought or luck out on a jump( as a mate of mine keeps reminding me)......whether anyone cares or listens is besides the point...

That jump was about a lot of us....thanks me fellow drogues you make this sport a treat...and with that the discussion ends

If only they knew(and those that do already do)

And now because of the above posts I have to go round up the usual suspects......

And yes unfortunately the first pints still on me

    cheers Nik

No more IPBC champion stuff. NOBODY CARES! The majority of the BASE jumping community doesn't know about or doesn't care about the IPBC. It's only 40 testosterone driven, ego toting males who feel the need to show they can hit a dot on the ground. Way to refine those essential skills and tools for living! Which is probably why most of them are still single.

You know we love you Babs. Suicides aside, Portland still rules in the winter if you're prepared to kick ice off of exit points and are willing to climb towers in 26 degree temps while getting zapped on the nose when leaning in for an exit kiss.

Well, you obviously have some CLOSET INTEREST in the IPBC or you wouldn't have followed this thread for as long as you have.

Plus, anyone who's tipped and flicked a few with the Portland crew would be able to see where this thread was heading LONG AGO!

In Oregon you got to pay attention to the weather forecast and make sure that it will be safe to jump!!! And if it is , GO FOR IT! :-)

Just in Oregon huh? So any other state it's ok to disregard the weather forecast and jump at will?
