Don't Go In Without It . . .
After a solo tower jump that went badly Don Swazye realized there's no way he can crawl to his car, and he's bleeding very badly. He whips out his cell phone and calls 911.
Later, he said, "At first they didn't believe me. Then when they did believe me it seemed like I was calling artillery down on my own position."
Now, not too few years later, it seems the rescue of individuals who indulge in risky outdoor behavior has become accepted after a too delirious media made such a big deal over public (tax) money being used as a safety net for, what they basically termed, dumb people, all through the 1990's.
Adventure is an American birthright and it seems the powers to be agree:
WASHINGTON: Hikers, mountain climbers, hunters and others who find themselves in trouble can now use the same technology that's been used by pilots and boaters for years.
Like the flying ELT or boating EPERB activating the device will satellite pinpoint your position and takes the search out of search and rescue. In just a few months the small units will be available for rent at sporting outlets and will sell outright for around $300.
