Hi...

I saw something on an old skydiving harness when I was at the loft several years ago. It seemed like it would really improve the comfort of the leg straps.

On most base rigs I've seen, the leg strap (excluding padding) is composed of two pieces of webbing - one piece over the other. However, on the old skydiving rig I saw, the leg strap went double-wide instead of one piece over the other. From the hip, it separated to be side-by-side, firmly sewn between the two. This double-wide piece extended just around the leg until it came back together to be sewn to a B-12 snap. Yeah, I know B-12's are less common these days, but the concept is the same. Not only is the leg strap wider, the end result of the sewing is that the leg strap form a natural curve, improving leg support over the width of the two side-by-side straps.
