    Skydiving magazine bites the dust

So much for our voice in mainstream media.

    Hi All,

Yes...it is all true. The last issue of Skydiving Magazine was January. We mailed out pro-rated refund checks on Friday, January 16th. Renewals and new subscriptions that have come in since late December have not been processed.

(Please note that we have never offered a "Lifetime Subscription" to Skydiving Magazine. About 10 years ago we offered a 10-year subscription with a copy of Norman Kent's Photo Book...these 10-year subscriptions are starting to come to an end.)

We will still be in the office to take care of any issues. If anyone has any questions or problems, please feel free to contact me, sandy@skydivingmagazine.com.

That WAS the only good skydiving rag to read....guess I'll go back to wiping my ass with 14 year old back issues of that other magazine...Parashitiest.

Weird that this occurred....because I am in the designing process of the next collectible.

I always liked Skydiving magazine much more that Parashitist. It gave BASE ads space in its mag and published BASE articles long before I started jumping. Its sad to see it go, but not surprising. These days everything is on-line. By the time Skydiving and Parashitist comes out with stories on the same events, equip, fatalities, etc, its month old news that has already been discussed.

Thanks for all of the good years.

Wow, just got a refund check in the mail today, would rather have the mag, they talked about me a couple of times!

Seriously, best wide spread BASE coverage is gone...

    Weak.

I was wondering why there weren't any question listed for reader responses...

thanks for everything. That rag seems like it was the last stand for parachuting enthusiasts.... the one they force you to take feels so commercial. the blinc vs bj of base forums in a sense.

tree right though, we exchange so much info on the net, yet I'll miss having a fresh article to read when sitting on the jamie and taking a harvey.

I would take it seriously; but it's serious and ridiculous at the same time. -sl

So, what's stopping someone else from starting something else back up? Probably time and effort. I remember Mick telling us how much work BLiNC was when we talked to him about getting involved to bring it back up. He wasn't exaggerating.
Imagine now if it was a printed periodical. User generated content like forums feed themselves. A magazine such as that, on the other hand, probably takes more effort than what you get out of it in return (as publishers, not subscribers).
Still, too bad that there wasn't a more public announcement. Could have been a passing of the torch. I was bummed to hear this.
