Every man for himslf. Fuck BASE I guess. And Maggot belongs in jail anyway. So in the end it's going to work out for everyone: Jeb gets the money for his WS landing project and NYC is a much safer place because the only active BASE jumper there now only jumps giant black cocks
And with NYC setting precedence, I can easily see other cities following suit. I wouldn't expect them to all just jump out and enact legislation, but you can imagine the next time someone gets busted in a big city, lawmakers will immediately refer to NYC as a model for how to deal w/ BASE and execute the same plan of action without batting an eye.
The building management's $12M suit was ridiculous...but a $30M counter-suit, offering to consult on security, going on the Today show and keeping the fire going?
-C.
im shakeing my head right now.
when i first got into BASE. i used to run into JEB a lot, at the DZ and he would tell me cool shit, he would tell me what not to do. what he did wrong etc. and also told me how to do a couple of objects that weren't as big a deal as i thought were a big deal. and other stuff.
so now i'm a little confused on what he's trying to accomplish. it really makes US all look like unrational folks. i'm sure it's just about putting his name out there for publicity? but still i'm perplexed by his actions, and i would be annoyed if i jumped in NYC area. aS IT is i'm annoyed on the west coast cuz it's still not a good thing.
JEB please stop, and understand at what you think is normal, and a lifestyle , is still deamed CRAZY to most. Trying to explain to the masses that you were in control and wouldn't land on somebody is beyond what NORMAL PEOPLE can comprehend. NORMAL PEOPLE that don't jump don't understand tracking, and trying to explain it to a lot of skydivers would probably fall on deaf ears as well.
JEB PLEASE STOP!! THIS FROM A FAN. NOT A HATER. This is ridiculus. HAVE YOU EVER WATCHED ONE OF those DAYTIME TALK SHOW'S (jerry springer ) WITH THE CIRCUS SHOW SET UP. AND SOME CLUELESS PERSON'S ON THERE JUSTIFYING THEIR WEIRD LIFE STYLE TO THE NATION? AND THEY JUST DON'T GET IT!
WELL THIS IS HOW YOUR GOING TO BE SEEN. REALLY. MORE THAN LIKELY , MOST BASE'ERS ARE GOING TO SEE YOU THIS WAY AS WELL. I DO, AND I'M A FAN OF YOURS.
YOU ARE ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE INSPIRED ME.
LATER AND PLEASE STOP THIS NOW. AND JUST DROP IT. AND DO YOUR CRAFT THAT YOU DO WELL IN THE STEATHY FASHION YOU SHOULD BE DOIN' IT.
GOOD LUCK JEB AND DO THE RIGHT THING!
From TREE:
Jeb may be doing what he thinks is right, but this can only make NYC and other cities less base friendly. Talk about raising awareness of other building owner's and manager's . This has got to be the worst attetion grab I've ever seen.
Since Jeb has seen it fit to offer to help to the building owner's to secure the building (s) from being jumped I think it is appropriate for the base community to offer assistance the the ESB legal team to aid them in their defense of this frivoulous lawsuit. Jeb says he was emotionally hurt by their restaining him, and how it made him sad so he couldn't jump (cough bullshit), but I'm fairly certain he hasn't been jumping much for a couple years anyhow. Nothing lilke the previous 5 years of harcore trust fund financed base touring. Maybe if you were current and less concerned with getting footage you would have pulled it off. We have a mutual friend who could have offered you some excellent advice on how to actaully jump the ESB and even get away unbusted.

although i'm not pleased with JEBs' thought process on a whole regarding ESB. I Still remeber JEB as a good guy. A guy who when i was barely into BASE and when selfish basegod and wingsuitgod types wouldn't share any info or even give me the time of day (a newbie at the time) , JEB would alway's share info with me about questions i had when i ran into him at perris , mostly in the back of the plane.
I will alway's remember that about the guy. So again I am annoyed about the ESB thing but............ HE IS CURRENT.
a BUDDY of mine was over in Switzerland in September/October , as part of a documentary/TV show for national geographic channel. And who was there jumpin' his ass off? both wingsuit and aerials, JEB. Jimmy P. was over there as part the of the National Geographic deal as well. And both will tell you , JEB was over there jumpin' his ass off. so...... anyway. just wanted to put that out there.
I think it's ok to slam JEBS (OR ANYONE'S) actions but......as far as who he is as a person and a jumper, well? I think he's a good guy and one of the best jumpers out there. Slam me if you will. But i'm not gonna mix up the fact of who he is 99% of the time, even though i think he's a little lost right now with this ESB thing!
im sure you all are gonna slam me. but as far as people SAYIN' something THATS not true i just wanted to correct that.

They also filmed him. The documentation was very good. The protagonists of the documentation (not Jeb) showed a very good and professional attitude towards the sport. And then they filmed Jeb pulling ultra low, 2 or 3 seconds of canopy ride under a partially inflated canopy, and then not getting up for a couple of minutes after he crashed into the big grass field. And the performance of his WS Jump sucked as well...
After the jump the interviewed him in the Horner where he was giving his speech about he being totally ok with dying in the sport and so on… fuck that… after his short appearance in the movie the intellectual level of the documentary just dropped a lot.
I don't know Jeb, maybe he is a cool guy to hang out and is pushing the envelope and developing the sport blablabla, but I also think he is a egomaniac jumper that thinks only of himself.

New York outlaws 'base jumping'
NEW YORK (AFP) - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Monday outlawed extreme thrill seekers who dodge police to jump or hang from high buildings, his press office said.
The bill signed by Bloomberg "prohibits climbing, jumping or suspending oneself from structures without the approval of the police department and the owner of the structure."
The law targets freelance practioners of a sport known as BASE jumping, which stands for Building, Antenna, Span or Earth. Climbers scale large objects, sometimes descending by parachute or wingsuit.
"Recent high-profile stunts in Manhattan have brought both the appeal and the danger of this hobby to light," the mayor's office said.
"Valuable city resources are dedicated to responding to these events -- resources that could be better utilized to respond to other emergencies," the office said in a statement.
The prohibition did not affect renowned daredevil David Blaine who on Monday began an attempt to remain upside down, suspended from a four-storey metal frame in Central Park, for 60 hours.
A spokesman for the illusionist and performer said that full clearance had been obtained.
This sucks... Thanks a lot Jeb

BASE jumper Jeb Corliss contends security guards endangered his life
Daredevil sues Empire State Building
Jan. 17: BASE jumper Jeb Corliss, who tried to parachute off the landmark, discusses his $30 million lawsuit exclusively on TODAY.

A professional stunt jumper thwarted from leaping off the 86th floor observation deck of the Empire State Building is suing the famous New York landmark, claiming its employees endangered his life.
“My life was in danger the moment they touched me,” daredevil Jeb Corliss explained to TODAY co-host Matt Lauer on Thursday. “If my parachute had deployed when they had their hands on me, I would have been yanked off the edge of the building, and I would have impacted the ledge about four floors down, which most likely would have killed me. No one can touch you when you’re standing on a four-inch ledge with a parachute on your back.”
The incident high above Manhattan happened in April 2006. Corliss, wearing a mask and a “fat suit” to conceal his parachute, paid his fare and rode the elevator to the building’s observation deck.
Once there, he stripped off his disguise, put on a helmet with a camera mounted on it, and clambered over the tall fence on the deck. Before he could execute a jump he had planned for years, security guards grabbed him and handcuffed his hands and one ankle to the bars.

Video of the incident shot by an accomplice shows Corliss demanding that the guards release him. “I will fall and die if you do not let me go,” he told them.
The handcuffs only increased the danger, he said: “I told them when they handcuffed me to the bars, ‘What you’re doing, if my parachute opens, my arms will be severed.’ ”
The 31-year-old Corliss, who has jumped from the Eiffel Tower, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Petronas Towers in Malaysia, was arrested and charged by New York prosecutors with reckless endangerment — a felony. But, it turned out, there is no law in New York that makes it illegal to jump from buildings. In January 2007, a city judge ruled that Corliss had not acted recklessly and had broken no laws.
“I spent years preparing for this jump, learning about the wind conditions, the way the area works, studying the building and where you could actually jump the building in a safe way,” he told Lauer. “I also studied traffic patterns, when the lights turn red, how long they turned red. I watched at different times for everything.”
He said no one on the ground would have been at risk had he been able to execute his jump. When he jumped off the Petronas Towers, he said, it was as part of a New Year’s celebration paid for by the government and he landed safely in a crowd of 300,000 people.
“The concept of my parachute not opening and landing on someone on the ground, would not happen,” he said. “It’s not a case of accidents don’t happen, I wouldn’t have been deploying my parachute over human life. When I jump, I do something called tracking — I actually fly away from the building — one foot forward for every foot I drop. I deploy my parachute over the roof of the building across the street.”
Fighting back
Just the same, when he was acquitted in court, the owners of the Empire State Building sued Corliss for $12 million, claiming that his attempted leap endangered customers, tenants, visitors and employees, as well as the public at large. That suit was dismissed, and now Corliss is suing back for $30 million, claiming the guards who prevented him from jumping put his life in danger and caused him “severe emotional distress.”
He’s also claiming that the building’s owners defamed him by continuing to claim his actions were dangerous and illegal even after he was cleared of wrongdoing.
Four others had successfully parachuted from the building before Corliss’ failed attempt. The daredevils call their sport BASE jumping, an acronym for Bridge, Antenna, Span, Earth.
“The last time it was jumped, the person got to exactly the same position I got to, and the guards reached through and grabbed onto him, and he said, ‘What you’re doing right now could make me fall,’ and they let him go,” he said.
Corliss said he would have had no argument with the owners of the building or the guards if they had grabbed him before he climbed over the fence. “If they had gotten me before I got over the bars, OK, more power to them — you did your job,” he said. “But once I got over the suicide bars, their right to grab onto me ended.”

VOTE: Should he have been allowed to jump off the Empire State Building?
He said what the building’s owners should be doing is improving their security so that no one — BASE jumper or suicide — can get over the fence and jump. “There are buildings where no one’s ever BASE jumped and no one’s ever committed suicide off them because they have adequate security,” he said.
Corliss said he’s through with unauthorized jumps. When he was arrested after his failed attempt, he was fired as host of the Discovery Channel show “Stunt Junkies” and banned from the network.
“I’m only doing jumps where I get permits from the city and the building owner,” he told Lauer. “So I‘m never doing this type of jumping again. I’ve grown beyond that. My next thing is I’m going to be landing a wing suit without deploying a parachute.”
He denied being a thrill-seeker. “I don’t do it for the thrill of it,” he said. “When I was a small child, I always dreamt of flying, and I always had people tell me that’s impossible, people can’t fly. When I got older, I realized that they were wrong, you can fly.”
That may be. But for now, you can’t use the top of the Empire State Building as your runway.
IMHO, if you piss off one city that takes a certain action, the rest of the lemmings will follow. So I would say thanks solidify a common ban. They had no reason to do so in the past, but they sure as HELL have a reason now.

It sounds like the new law could actually make BASE a felony. Do I get that right?
