Question on Buying Gear..

Question: I have 34 Base jumps, none in last 6 years, all with modified skydiving gear. I am planning to purchase new BASE Gear and go to the Perrine Bridge Base jumping course. I also am planning a trip to Kjerag in June.

I am considering a Gargoyle Rig / MDV Troll. Any thoughts on this set up? I realize I will be moving from the low Perrine Bridge to the height of Norway, and I want a good set up for both.

After my Norway trip, my BASE will more or less confined to the antennas in my area (Louisiana / Mississippi) which are plentiful at 1500 feet plus.

Appeciate thoughts on gear selection.

Hi Patrick --

The Gargoyle and the Troll MDV are excellent products and I am confident that you will be very happy with both of them.

No matter what brand of container you go with, a pin rig will require more attention to detail than a velcro container. (they are exceptionally suited for the environment you will be jumping in -- I just wanted to raise the point)

For the canopy, I'd look closely at a wing-loading of .7 to .75 with all of your equipment/gear on. Another close wag is to take your naked body weight, add 100, and that is an approximation of what size you should get (round up or down to the nearest size). The latter is called "The Shotgun Ray Approach".
