    Video for BD 2001

I have watched with dismay the Lemmings Saga of BD 2000. Donk has it right, it's time for action.

I am going to organize (contract with) a video production company to shoot video for BD 2001. Anyone with contacts should send me an e-mail at BASE610@home.com. All we really need is a local (Mid-Atlantic area) production company that can have 3 cameras on site for 6 hours, and then boil the footage down to the 2 or 3 hours we like to watch.

To start with, I would like to get an idea of how many people order the tapes so we know what kind of budget we have to work with.

Ideally, I want to work with a small company that will work on a contingent basis, and if the project yeilds any profit it will go towards organising some other BASE event that we all get to attend like Bridge Day.

    Suggestions, comments?

    Thanks,
    Tree

    RE: Video for BD 2001

I have heard from the Bridge Day Assocation and was told that they have the exclusive for the Bridge Day Video/ Lemmings Tape. As mentioned above, this is not a commercial venture I propose.

As a group we (those who want video of themselves at BD) will hire some people to shoot video and provide us with tapes. We will share the costs, and if there happens to be anything left over we will use that money for another group base trip. Maybe a Perrine Boogie with Video?

Anyone interested in the content of the e-mail the BDA sent me regarding my idea can inquire at BASE610@home.com

    Trying to help everyone out,

do you think maybe the bda could pick a more stable or responsible person to do the video? like why not tom sanders? hes there doing photos, he was good getting those out. he can handle the videos. bda repeatedly fails with its video choice, when that person repeatedly has problems putting out the video in a timely fashion. I support your idea and would purchase your or any other video that competes with ibpc or bda video contractors...

Sound like a good idea, however in my dealing with local production companies they can be pretty expensive.

Throw me on your distribution list and let me know if there is anything I can do to help. You may want to run this by Avery or Harry to see what their opinion is. It is my understanding that they have loyalties to Will and I might suggest having their approval to avoid inadvertently creating any additional headaches for them come NRGB 01 organization time.

    RE: Video for BD 2001

i think what this thread is talking about is as much just video-ing the event and distributing the video at cost to interested parties. Id do this myself, except im there to jump, as are we all. it would be nice if the bda would take care of business in its selection of the video contract, but clearly as usual avery and harry are awarding the contract to one of their bay area "good buddies" rather than a quality, consistent and reliable agency. Avery telling us to relax and wait till the video comes out is insulting; we are the customer and base jumpers, we have the right to expect the video in a reasonable time without substantial problems. We paid money for the service after all. Avery may claim "exclusive video rights" to the event, but i want to see him stop me from having someone in the crowd of thousands video it and then distributing it to whomever is interested. It may take money and control out of avery's pockets and those of his friends. deal with it avery. next time handle the bda with some professionalism and responsibility...

    Lemmings

    To "mark cob of texas"
Actually, Will Forshay was producing Lemmings before I ever even made a BASE jump. He was already there when I got to my first Bridge Day, in '94. I showed up with Dennis, and helped him help Andy in the exit area. Will was an existing installment by that time. I also helped Andy/Dennis in '95 and '96. Will was there then, too. When Harry, Dennis and I started the BDA and the overall organization of the BASE jumpers at Bridge Day, Will was there to ask for his place, and was given the spot. At the time, no one else wanted to sit in the exit area all day, or the landing area either, you see they are with you and me, we just want to jump. I don't know that Will has been a "repeated disappointment", or that his production record is any better or worse then some of "the other guys" in the business. Will is a bit behind the power curve at this time, and I simply wanted to take some heat off him. Of course you can video from where ever, and when ever, at Bridge Day, provided you follow the protocol of the permit, and of the BDA Exit Area Staff, and the NPS in the landing area.

    Avery:
When you say "Will is a bit behind the power curve at this time", do you mean you have been in contact with him and the videos are still in the works? I'd still like to get the video, but I'm about ready to bail and dispute the charge with my credit card company. Would be nice just to have an update from either Will or someone who has been in contact with him.

    RE: Lemmings

Not to get into the middle of anything here, but most credit cards will only allow disputes up to 90 days. Some only allow it for 30, and some 60. So you may want to check with your CC company just so you know for current and future reference.
