    brake settings

I'm new to the sport and just got my Fox 285 (vtec). I've read alot about dialing in a custom deep brake setting for slider off jumps. BR's owner's manual states that the vtec foxs' will now only come with one setting . It also states that the setting is what they think is optimal for a number of reasons

Would it be advisable to go against the manufacturers recomendation and set the brakes even deeper? It doesn't take much rear riser pressure (with the brakes still set) now to get the canopy to stop moving forward.

I'd like to get an idea of how many other vtec jumpers with a 285 and similar wing loading had to set their brakes deeper, or did the factory settings end up being where they needed them.
I weigh 195 butt nekid add about 4 or 5 lbs for helmet, knee pads etc.... I'm estimating 205 all together with gear. wing loading = .71 : 1

    Thanks

Possibly. One needs to make several test jumps to find the deep brake setting that is right for them. This will vary from jumper to jumper.

Sounds like your factory setting may be perfect.

I'd estimate that your exit weight is closer to 215 - 220. You need to count the weight of the gear (approx 16lbs), pads, boots, radio, water, etc. Best bet is to get completely dressed for a jump and stand on a scale.

If you do some research on this site, you'll find some good info on determining deep brake settings.

    C-ya!
