near terminal or terminal packing?

When I watch those videos of the big wall jumps. I notice they are still using mesh sliders. I assume from the delay they are near terminal or at terminal.

So my question is, Would a nose exposed mesh slider pack job be acceptable for a terminal opeing?

Do you pack the same for a 6 sec delay as you would for longer delay off a wall, ie near or at terminal?

In short I peformed a base pack job on my canopy and I am going to peform a hop-pop at the DZ. I am toy'n with the idea to take it to terminal. It may hurt but I just dont want it to kill me :)

Its my a big cushy base canopy. :P I want to jump in my skydiving container to test higher speed deployments, but I wasnt sure if I should take it to terminal.

I used to have one on my slider to take a bite in break lines on a skydive cnopy - to add break line control to my crap pro-packs.

The bungee (rubber band to Americans) (direct control) on the slider apex holds it tight in the pack job until the pack job reaches line stretch. This can also be achieved using indirect control (i.e. that stow just underneath the tailpocket).

The theory is that the lines are fully taught before the slider begins to come down, allowing the slider to move down the lines as cleanly and quickly as possible, contributing to more symmetric deployment and discouraging off headings.

Most people prefer to use it at terminal. Some people never use it, and some people use it all the time.

I personally use direct control unless I am deploying very low, or the jump is very subterminal and I am using a slider to stage a multi-way deployment.

This technique has been used on and off by some BASE jumpers for some time. Old Mojo sliders include this stow, as do the Dagger sliders I have seen. To my knowledge, this technique is recommended by Vertigo, but not by CR or BR.

I have been jumping Maverick and Mojos, and have never rubber band my slider! My packing is the same for slider down or slider up, 160 m slider up I expose the nose a little bit more than when I jump big walls. I pull the center cell around the corners, and let the end cells lay flat under neat it, pointing outwards. I have tried to roll the end cells 2 - 3 times, but couldnt tell any difference. When I jump a new canopie, I do some few sub terminal jumps on it, before going terminal.

When I have been in Norway every year, I take the center cell and set it flat when dressing the nose, Then I take the 3 cells on either side and roll them 4-5 time, and lay them on top of the center cell, essentially hiding the center cell.

I am not a rigger, and strongly recommend you get to a MFG to verify this, but it works for me.

i am not a rigger either but i have always rolled the nose of my fox and hidden the center cell away when jumping in Norway.it is the way i was shown and it works well.

but when jumping other walls not so big but still slider up between 6 and 10 secs i left the nose exposed but more than this i will always hide the nose away!!!

After my canopy was not new (15jumps) I switched to a mesh slider, I am very happy with all of my openings except one on terminal delays, unfortunately, that one is a biggie, ruptured disc in my neck, resulting in my shoulder cramping up, radiating pain, numbness and now I am in physiotherapy trying to avoid surgery or looking like the hunchback of Notre Dame.
But I love the other openings at terminal with mesh slider..
